Customer summary
The BMW 2 Series is widely praised by owners for its impressive performance, sharp handling, and sporty feel, making it a favorite among driving enthusiasts. Many appreciate the power and agility, along with the comfort and luxury touches that enhance the driving experience. However, some drivers express concerns about the high maintenance costs, premium fuel requirements, and cramped back seat space. Overall, the 2 Series strikes a great balance between fun and practicality, though it may come with a few compromises.

Has almost every feature I need and want, the price I paid was a no brainer but in all honesty I was prepared to pay more. I wish it had blind spot notice and an Ariel camera view but it’s not deal breakers for me at all. I love the vehicle. I was set on an M240i but was open to years from 2018-2021 since that was my favorite body style. Ended up being able to get the newest and last year of the body style with great miles, and I’d have it no other way. Thank you Chantilly Auto!

One of the best driving cars. Balanced, peppy, great on gas and has all the bells and whistles I need. Roof rails to accommodate my bike rack, ski rack, and the AWD is literally incredible in the snow. Very reliable 4 cyl and never any serious mechanical issues between 70-110k miles.

Get a FULLY loaded version. Don't skimp out on the options. iDrive 8.5 is not customizable, the head unit is locked down hard so you can't access any fun things with your obd2 and Bimmercode. That was very disappointing....

Overview
About the BMW 2 Series
The 2 Series is BMW’s entry-level nameplate for the U.S., and actually encompasses two very different vehicles: the standard two-door 2 Series and the four-door 2 Series Gran Coupe. While they share the 2 Series name, each model is built on a separate architecture and offers a different driving experience.
What are the advantages of the BMW 2 Series?
- Impressive technology
- Standard advanced safety features
- Stylish design
What is the best BMW 2 Series model year?
Earlier 2 Series models offer a better driving experience. The second-generation two-door 2 Series coupe introduced for the 2022 model year brought greater tech, but left us feeling numb and disconnected. BMW also eliminated some choices available on the first-generation 2 Series, specifically a manual transmission and convertible body style.
What are the disadvantages of the BMW 2 Series?
- Manual transmission not available
- Cramped back seat (two-door models)
- Disconnected driving experience
Comparison: Is the BMW 2 Series better than the Mercedes-Benz A-Class?
Sold only as a four-door sedan during its brief foray in the U.S. from model years 2019 to 2022, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class is very similar to the Gran Coupe version of the two series. Both are small sedans aiming to offer some of the prestige of well-known luxury brands at an affordable price. So deciding which is the best option really comes down to brand preference.
Is the BMW 2 Series a reliable car?
The 2 Series was the top-ranked “small premium car” in J.D. Power’s 2023 customer satisfaction survey, beating rivals like the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, Audi A3, and Acura Integra.
Is the BMW 2 Series worth the cost?
The current 2 Series is a true BMW, in both good ways and bad. It’s fast yet comfortable, but also lacks some of the safety features that are standard much cheaper cars, hurting its value proposition. Still, with so few two-door coupes still available, it’s hard to be picky.
