Yes — the BMW 2 Series earns strong marks from owners across the lineup, and it consistently delivers the sporty character shoppers expect from a small BMW.

Key things to evaluate:
- Infotainment: 2025 models come with a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The entry level 228 xDrive Gran Coupe is rated at 241 horsepower, which is 13 hp more than the previous version’s powertrain. The M235 xDrive Gran Coupe we drove increases output to 312 hp, which is 10 hp more than its predecessor. These second-generation Gran Coupes feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive (AWD) is standard. An even more affordable front-wheel-drive (FWD) 228 Gran Coupe is due for the 2026 model year, though. In addition to the bumped-up power, the BMW M235 further benefits from upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, unique interior trim, sport seats, and a sport steering wheel. As noted above, our particular Gran Coupe also came with the optional M Performance package that adds a sport suspension, M brakes, M Sport seats, and 19-inch wheels with performance tires that enable a higher top speed of 155 mph (compared to 130 mph for other tire options). BMW claims the M235 will accelerate to 60 mph in a quick 4.5 seconds, while the 228 should get there in 6 seconds. Power is plentiful enough that you'll never feel the need to floor the pedal when launching up a freeway onramp or when passing slower traffic. Gear changes are quick and smooth in these conditions, and unlike some other dual-clutch transmissions, the Gran Coupe is also fairly smooth and predictable at parking-lot speeds. Brake pedal effort is lighter than we'd expect from a sporty BMW, but when called upon, the brakes bring this small sedan to a very quick stop and we didn’t experience any performance loss with heavy use. On a challenging, twisty road, the xDrive AWD system does an admirable job of eliminating the front-end traction issues that limit the cornering performance of the Mini Cooper. There's plenty of grip to accelerate out of a curve, though the Gran Coupe still has a hint of the telltale nose-heaviness of its FWD-derived platform. All Gran Coupe models come standard with adaptive dampers, which allow you to choose between softer or firmer settings. With the M Performance package, it's biased more toward the firm side and tends to transmit a lot of jostling into the cabin. It's not so stiff as to be considered harsh, though. The ride quality is comfortable enough for long-distance drives, though some prominent seams in the road surface can cause some noticeable thumps through the seat. The cabin also remains fairly calm when cruising, with wind noise well silenced and road noise only becoming noticeable on coarser asphalt. You won't mistake the engine for anything but a four-cylinder, but it only makes itself known under aggressive acceleration.
Which BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?
The 2025 BMW 2 Series offers these trims:
- 228 xDrive Gran Coupe: This entry-level trim brings the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 241 horsepower, a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, standard all-wheel drive, adaptive dampers, a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system. It suits you if you want the most affordable way into the lineup with a strong standard feature set.
- M235 xDrive Gran Coupe: This trim adds 312 horsepower, upgraded brakes, a rear spoiler, unique interior trim, sport seats, and a sport steering wheel, with the optional M Performance package bringing a sport suspension, M brakes, M Sport seats, and 19-inch wheels with performance tires. It is the best-value choice if you want the most performance and the most aggressive hardware in the range.
What BMW 2 Series do most buyers choose?
The BMW 2 Series years with the most listings are 2025, 2026, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,551 | 36.7% |
| 2026 | 1,258 | 37.6% |
| 2024 | 1,068 | 36.8% |
| 2023 | 728 | 34.5% |
| 2027 | 696 | 35.9% |
| 2022 | 664 | 35.7% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more choices, which can make it easier to compare trims, mileage, and pricing. They also tend to be the years shoppers focus on when they want a broad mix of availability and value.
What is the BMW 2 Series's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | $37,266 | −17.76% |
| 2021 | $21,485 | −10.51% |
| 2022 | $25,709 | −8.19% |
| 2023 | $33,629 | −7.05% |
| 2024 | $34,046 | −6.02% |
| 2016 | $16,166 | −3.95% |
| 2020 | $22,805 | −3.52% |
| 2015 | $15,529 | +1.45% |
| 2017 | $18,868 | +2.86% |
| 2018 | $22,007 | +4.02% |
Most model years in this set are moving lower year over year, which is good news if you want to buy used. Has almost every feature I need and want, the price I paid was a no brainer but in all honesty I was prepared to pay more. I wish it had blind spot notice and an Ariel camera view but it’s not deal breakers for me at all. I love the vehicle. I was set on an M240i but was open to years from 2018-2021 since that was my favorite body style. Ended up being able to get the newest and last year of the body style with great miles, and I’d have it no other way. Thank you Chantilly Auto!

One of the best driving cars. Balanced, peppy, great on gas and has all the bells and whistles I need. Roof rails to accommodate my bike rack, ski rack, and the AWD is literally incredible in the snow. Very reliable 4 cyl and never any serious mechanical issues between 70-110k miles.

Get a FULLY loaded version. Don't skimp out on the options. iDrive 8.5 is not customizable, the head unit is locked down hard so you can't access any fun things with your obd2 and Bimmercode. That was very disappointing....

Why it stands out
The 2026 BMW 2 Series stands out as a compact BMW built around driving enjoyment rather than pure luxury. It carries the brand’s rear-wheel-drive character, and in this generation it is a coupe only, with a more muscular look marked by bulging fenders, a squared-off grille, and rectangular headlights and taillights. The lineup also keeps the performance focus front and center: the base 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four makes 255 horsepower, while the 3.0-liter turbo inline-six produces 382 hp. For buyers who want a small BMW that feels more like a performance car than an entry-level luxury model, that combination is the main appeal.
The 2026 BMW 2 Series also offers a strong mix of standard equipment. The base 230i Coupe includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with automatic high beams, leatherette seating surfaces, power-adjustable front sport seats, three-zone climate control, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and a 10-speaker audio system. Standard safety tech includes frontal collision warning and lane departure warning systems. The M240i xDrive Coupe adds 19-inch alloy wheels, M Sport brakes, keyless entry, push-button start, hands-free tailgate operation, and leather seats, while available features include a head-up display, heated seats, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and self-parking functionality.
There are a few tradeoffs. The 2 Series is bigger and heavier than before, and it is no longer available with a convertible body style or a manual transmission. Still, for shoppers who value a sporty rear-drive coupe with upscale features and a clear enthusiast bent, the 2026 BMW 2 Series remains distinctive.
