In its second generation, the A5 was redesigned for the 2018 model year and expanded beyond the original coupe formula to include a five-door Sportback, giving buyers a sleeker alternative with more cargo flexibility. The Sportback’s sloping roofline opens to a generous cargo area, while the coupe and convertible remain the more style-focused choices. That makes the 2024 A5 appealing as a refined, well-equipped luxury car that still offers respectable performance.
There are tradeoffs, though. The coupe’s trunk is less practical than the Sportback’s cargo area, and the convertible gives up around three cubic feet of trunk space because of its folding soft top. The manual transmission was dropped after 2019, so the 2024 A5 is aimed more at comfort, technology, and all-wheel-drive confidence than at old-school driver involvement.
