Customers say
The Audi A4 Avant is highly regarded for its impressive performance, luxurious interiors, and sporty handling across all model years. Owners appreciate the car's successful blend of practicality and style, especially highlighting the spacious cargo area and advanced all-wheel-drive system. Many drivers also enjoy the smooth ride and high build quality. However, some criticisms include the perception of high maintenance costs, slightly stiff back seats for some models, and concerns about the adequacy of power in certain trims. Overall, it stands out as a versatile choice for those seeking a fun yet practical vehicle.

I have now had this 2008 Audi Avant, mileage 79000-88000 for five years. It was a one owner car from Massachusetts bought without inspection during Covid. I had only a Carfax and a few pictures. I had it inspected when it got here and got a laundry list of needs which I have addressed over the past years and found some unnecessary. The conclusion I have is that is was a very well made car with very good materials. After 17 years there are no signs of body corrosion, although springs and some suspension parts showed corrosion. Engine belts were changed, valve cover gasket changed, and a couple of costly surprises were repaired. The interior still shows minimal wear. I really like the size and the zippy performance, especially in sport mode. Even though it is a 2.0 turbo, acceleration is pretty good and easily revs to redline at 6800 or so. End result is a 17 year old wagon that is still enjoyable to drive. No wonder there is an enthusiastic following and why these cars are kept on the road with 180,000 to sometimes 240,000 miles. Can be expensive repairs but a fun car to drive, very good on highway, twisty roads, or in snow.

Excellent handling and cargo space for long family trips. Reliable and easy to maintain if you know a good Audi certified mechanic. The sports package is a must have. Love the Bose sound system. Smooth driving experience. Solid feel on the road.

This is by far the best car I have ever had. Strong and reliable, stylish and fast, sporty and great Diesel mileage. Doesnt mater if you drive to work or go to the beach with your board, if you pick up your girl or have to drive long distance, if you go on gravel roads or the parking lot. This is it!

Fit and finish inside & out is excellent. Silky smooth handling. 8 way adjustable Sport seats provide outstanding driver comfort. Remembers 2 drivers settings. Rain sensing windshield wipers and automatic headlights are also pluses. Bluetooth interface easy to use. You won't find all these features at this price point elsewhere.

Overview
The Audi A4 is a mid-size luxury sedan that occupies the lower rung of the A lineup (in addition to the A6 and A8). Essentially Audi's entry-level car, the A4 introduced its Avant wagon in 1998, as an alternative to the growing popularity of gas-guzzling SUVs. The Avant wagon featured quattro technology, but with more car-like handling, without skimping on cargo room.
The original engines were a turbocharged 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder at 150-hp and a 3.2-liter V6 at 172-hp. The engines have remained the same over the years, while horsepower rose to 200 and 255 respectively with the second generation refresh in 2002. This new generation Avant also featured a lighter-weight aluminum suspension, for even better handling, fuel economy, and sporty feel. Interior space was also increased somewhat, but the A4 is the smallest of the A-class segment, and therefore rear legroom continues to be limited.
Aside from quattro performance, Audi is also known for its comfortable and upscale cabins, and the A4 Avant is a good combination of luxury and utilitarian convenience. Power features, leather seats, a sunroof, MP3 compatibility, wood accents, and dual-zone climate control are some of the long list of standard features. Plenty of option packages add on performanc-oriented equipment, safety features such as rear parking sensors, and added comfort in the form of heated seats. Safety is always a primary focus of Audi, and the A4 Avant is fully equipped with airbags, ABS brakes, and traction and stability control.
Though its functionality resembles the station wagons of yore, the A4 Avant is more a blend of car and SUV. The surefooted quattro makes it ideal in rough climates, while the smooth and quiet ride are equally at home in city commutes. Though smaller than some other wagons in terms of rear passenger room, most drivers generally love its style, comfort, and reliability.
