Reviewed a 2019 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid on Oct 23, 2020
I drove a 2020 MDX. The hybrid is a smooth drive and handles very well.It is a little noisy in the cabin especially when accelerating . The main problem with the 2020 is the lack of availability . There are very few in northern California and no plans to add more. The sales manager said that the 2021 model will not be available until March,

Overview
About the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid
The MDX Sport Hybrid was introduced for the 2017 model year as part of a refresh of the third-generation MDX, Acura’s midsize crossover SUV. It was dropped after the 2020 model year—the last for the third-gen MDX. Its main rival was the hybrid version of the Lexus RX but, as the name implies, the MDX Sport Hybrid emphasizing performance to a greater degree than the RX hybrid.
What are the advantages of the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid?
- Powerful hybrid system
- Comfortable
- Spacious
What is the best Acura MDX Sport Hybrid model year?
The Sport Hybrid was only available for three model years, which didn’t leave much time for changes during its run. A final-year 2020 model might be a marginally safer bet, as Acura should have worked out any bugs by that time.
What are the disadvantages of the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid?
- Conservative styling
- Fairly pedestrian performance
- Unintuitive technology
Comparison: Is the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid better than the Acura MDX?
The Sport Hybrid was the top MDX model, offering more power (321 horsepower versus 290 hp) and better fuel economy (27 mpg combined versus 23 mpg combined) than the non-hybrid version. However, those differences weren’t readily apparent in the real world. The Sport Hybrid name wrote checks the chassis couldn’t cash, and the on-paper difference in fuel economy could be erased by a heavy right foot.
Is the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid a reliable car?
J.D. Power doesn’t break out customer satisfaction scores for the MDX Sport Hybrid, but in the final model year that it was available, the overall ranking for the MDX was sixth in its category. The rival Lexus RX took the top spot.
Is the Acura MDX Sport Hybrid worth the cost?
The MDX Sport Hybrid has plenty to offer, including a functional interior and plenty of power from its hybrid system. But the Sport Hybrid was not a huge improvement over the non-hybrid MDX. And compared to rival SUVs, it was competitive but not class-leading. So an MDX Sport Hybrid only represents a good value if you can get a used example at a low price.
