New & Used 2026 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearIthaca, NY

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 6.7/10 expert rating point to a vehicle that fits you well if you want an adventure-first SUV. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10. The 4Runner’s identity is clear: it’s built around off-road ability, can carry the family, and offers an available hybrid powertrain, so it makes the most sense if you value rugged capability over crossover polish. The trade-offs are just as clear, with a firm, jiggly ride and poor second-row comfort among the biggest compromises. Even the hybrid setup doesn’t fully solve efficiency, and the market still shows 35.8% good or great deals, which suggests you should shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 4Runner’s design leans into durability-minded, adventure-focused use, and the expert assessment backs that up with a solid 6.7/10 overall score and a 7/10 performance rating. Its powertrain is described as quick enough for daily use, with torque that is especially useful off-road, and the hybrid system adds output without changing the SUV’s rugged mission. Toyota also includes a one-year trial of Remote Connect, multi-year Safety Connect, and multi-year Service Connect, which helps with ownership convenience. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the same off-road focus that makes it appealing also brings comfort and efficiency compromises you’ll live with every day.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies. You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering one of the more trail-focused trims. Pay close attention to ride quality, tire wear, underbody condition, and signs of hard off-road use, since this SUV is designed to be used hard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim is the most stripped-down version, with cloth upholstery and the smaller 8-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add more comfort and tech. The off-road-focused trims also bring more aggressive hardware and features, but the base model is the one most likely to feel sparse if you want a more polished cabin.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque, or the i-Force Max hybrid with 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. The hybrid adds useful torque for off-roading, but it still isn’t especially quick for the output on paper.
• Safety package: Every 4Runner gets Safety Sense 3.0, which includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, road-sign recognition, and high-beam assist. Blind-spot monitors, front and rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic-jam assist are also standard.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen, with a 12.3-inch cluster on all but the base trim and a 14-inch touchscreen on Premium trims and higher. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and wireless phone charging is included on all but the base model.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid TRD Off-Road is rated at 23 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. Non-hybrid RWD models are rated at 22 mpg combined, while other non-hybrid 4WD versions are rated at 21 mpg combined.

Which 2026 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 9 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, Trailhunter, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live with the simpler cabin and smaller standard screens.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a step up from the base model without jumping into the more specialized off-road hardware.
• TRD Sport Premium: This is the better pick if you want the Sport trim’s positioning with more comfort and tech.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value trim for buyers who want serious trail capability without going all the way to the top of the range. It adds a locking rear differential, Bilstein remote-reservoir dampers, all-terrain tires, skid plates, and the Multi-Terrain System.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: Pick this if you want the Off-Road trim’s capability plus the Multi-Terrain Monitor and more convenience.
• Limited: This is the more street-friendly choice, with a full-time 4WD system and a lower-riding setup that’s easier to live with on pavement.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the more upscale trim with the hybrid powertrain standard and a more premium feature set.
• Trailhunter: This is for you if you want the most adventure-ready factory setup, including a snorkel, rock rails, an onboard compressor, and extra underbody protection.
• TRD Pro: This is the most extreme version, with Fox adjustable remote-reservoir shocks, extra protection, and the most aggressive off-road hardware.

Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 suite is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic-jam assist are also included.

The 2026 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover evaluations from NHTSA, and it received mixed results from IIHS. It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts. Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, with forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, road-sign recognition, and high-beam assist.
