Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

That lines up with the Santa Fe’s role as a practical family crossover: it offers a boxy shape, a thoughtfully crafted interior, and useful everyday storage, while the 2026 update adds a new transmission, added safety features, and minor equipment and packaging changes. The trade-offs are clear, though: the design is polarizing, fuel economy is poor, and the third row is cramped.

For shoppers who want a distinctive three-row SUV that emphasizes usefulness and value over maximum space, it makes a strong case. The market also shows 39.6% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are solid opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is presented as a well-rounded family SUV with strong value, a good warranty, and complimentary lifetime Bluelink+ connected services for original owners. Its updated automatic transmission is described as smoother and more unobtrusive than the previous dual-clutch setup, which supports a more polished ownership experience.

The expert notes also emphasize that the Santa Fe is easy to live with day to day, with clear sightlines, useful storage, and thoughtful details that make routine use simpler. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the least efficient versions can be costly to run if you rack up a lot of miles.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one that may have seen rough use. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and trim match the listing, since the Santa Fe lineup varies meaningfully by version.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy are the trims listed for this model year. The base trims use a 4.2-inch center display, while Limited and Calligraphy step up to a larger 12.3-inch display. The XRT adds a more rugged look, standard all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, and a raised suspension, but it also gives up efficiency.
• Powertrain: A standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. For 2026, Hyundai switched to a traditional eight-speed automatic, which is smoother than the previous dual-clutch unit. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional on most trims.
• Safety package: Hyundai includes a long list of standard safety features, including junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included. Some advanced features are not universal across the lineup.
• Infotainment: The Santa Fe uses a dual-screen setup with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with SiriusXM satellite radio and Bluelink+ connected services. A native navigation system and dynamic voice recognition are optional, and a Bose premium audio system is standard from the Limited trim upward.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard turbocharged engine is not very fuel efficient, and the XRT is the least efficient version at 21 mpg combined. Other AWD models are rated at 23 mpg combined. The Santa Fe Hybrid is rated at 34 mpg combined with AWD, but that powertrain is not part of the standard gas lineup.

Which 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point if you want the Santa Fe’s core space, standard turbo power, wireless smartphone integration, and broad safety coverage without paying for extras you may not need.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it should give you a more balanced mix of equipment and price than the base model, while staying focused on everyday family use.
• XRT: Choose this if you want the rugged look and the off-road-oriented hardware, including standard all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, and the lifted suspension. It is the least efficient version, so it makes sense only if you’ll actually use that capability.
• Limited: This is the trim to target if you want a more upscale feel, including the larger 12.3-inch driver display and the stronger tech-and-comfort mix.
• Calligraphy: Pick this if you want the most luxurious Santa Fe experience and are willing to pay for it.

Higher trims also bring Highway Driving Assist, while the Limited and Calligraphy add the larger driver display and a Bose premium audio system from the Limited trim upward.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, compare, and negotiate.

• Deal availability: 39.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,926 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 94.3% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star individual scores for frontal and side crashworthiness and four stars for rollover resistance.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai equips the Santa Fe with a long list of standard safety features, including junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist work together as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included to help keep tabs on the driver. The system can also bring the SUV to a safe stop if it detects an unresponsive driver.

One caveat is that navigation-based speed and curve control for adaptive cruise control can slow the Santa Fe too much in traffic, which may be frustrating in real-world use.

Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 39.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 adds a new transmission, added safety features, and minor equipment and packaging updates.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The 2025 emphasizes bold styling and a larger-feeling, family-friendly interior.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished version of this Santa Fe generation, the 2026 is the better target because it adds meaningful updates and still shows decent deal availability. If you’re mainly chasing value and can live with an older model year, the 2025 is worth a look, especially if you find a cleaner example at a lower price.
