Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns an 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10. It fits your needs well if you want a practical family crossover with a distinctive look, and the boxy shape plus thoughtfully crafted interior help it feel more useful than its smaller footprint might suggest. The trade-offs are clear: the design is polarizing, fuel economy is poor, and the third row is cramped. Even so, the market signal is encouraging, with 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is presented as a polished, family-friendly SUV with a new transmission and added safety features for this model year. Its smoother eight-speed automatic should be easier to live with than the previous dual-clutch setup, and the standard turbocharged engine is described as delivering effortless acceleration after a brief initial delay. Hyundai also backs the Santa Fe with thoughtful ownership perks, including complimentary lifetime Bluelink+ connected services for original owners.

That said, the standard turbo engine is not especially fuel efficient, and the XRT is the least-efficient version in the lineup. For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is mostly about choosing the right trim and avoiding the thirstier versions if you want lower running costs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific SUV you’re considering has a clean accident record and consistent service history. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus your walkaround on tire wear, interior condition, and whether the features you care about are actually present and working.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy trims span the lineup, and the base trims use a smaller 4.2-inch center display in the gauge cluster while the Limited and Calligraphy get a larger 12.3-inch display. The XRT adds a more rugged look, blacked-out appearance, and all-terrain tires, but the base trims are the ones to check carefully if you want the most upscale cabin features.
• Powertrain: A standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and the 2026 model switches to a smoother traditional eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional on most trims, and the XRT gets standard all-wheel drive plus off-road-oriented hardware.
• Safety package: Hyundai’s safety suite includes junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. Higher trims add Highway Driving Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist, along with a driver-attention monitor.
• Infotainment: The Santa Fe uses a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and standard equipment includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and Bluelink+ connected services. Limited and Calligraphy trims add a larger 12.3-inch gauge display, and a Bose premium audio system is standard from the Limited trim upward.
• Fuel efficiency: The XRT is rated at 21 mpg combined, while other AWD models are rated at 23 mpg combined. The Santa Fe Hybrid is rated at 34 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Santa Fe’s core space, safety, and tech without paying for extras you may not need.
• SEL: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value, since it builds on the base model without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• XRT: Choose this only if you want the rugged look and off-road hardware, because it adds all-terrain tires, standard AWD, and a lifted suspension, but it is also the least-efficient version.
• Limited: This is the best-value upscale pick if you want the richer 12.3-inch gauge display and the Bose audio system without going all the way to the top trim.
• Calligraphy: Pick this if you want the most luxurious Santa Fe experience and are willing to pay for it.

Higher trims include Highway Driving Assist, and the Limited and Calligraphy trims add the larger gauge display.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you have room to shop carefully rather than rushing.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,932 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 94.2% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crashworthiness and four stars for rollover resistance. It also earns a 2026 Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai’s standard safety suite includes junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. Higher trims add Highway Driving Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist, plus a driver-attention monitor that can help bring the SUV to a safe stop if needed. One caveat is that navigation-based speed and curve control can slow the Santa Fe too much in traffic.

Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The new transmission and added safety features make this year feel more polished.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The 2025 emphasizes bold styling and a more spacious-feeling family setup.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished version of this Santa Fe generation, the 2026 is the better target thanks to its smoother transmission and added safety features. If you’re shopping mainly on price, the 2025 is worth a look because it still delivers the Santa Fe’s distinctive design and family-friendly mission.
