Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Form follows function here: you get a midsize, three-row SUV that sits at the smaller end of the segment, but its boxy shape and thoughtfully crafted interior help make the case that bigger isn’t always better. For shoppers, the appeal is straightforward — it’s a family-friendly crossover with ample storage cubbies and compartments, great safety ratings, and strong value.

The trade-offs are just as clear. The design is polarizing, fuel economy is poor, and the third row is cramped. The XRT version also leans into off-road capability, which makes it less efficient than other trims.

With 40.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, there’s meaningful market availability if you want to shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is presented as easy to live with on a daily basis, with a thoughtfully crafted cabin, straightforward controls, and a new automatic transmission that delivers a smoother overall driving experience than the previous dual-clutch setup. The expert review also points to strong value, a long warranty, and complimentary lifetime connected services for original owners as ownership-friendly advantages.

The powertrain is a standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and the revised eight-speed automatic is described as smooth and unobtrusive. That combination suggests a more settled driving experience than before, even if fuel economy remains a weak point.

For used buyers, the long-term risk is less about outright complexity and more about choosing the right trim and avoiding a version whose efficiency or equipment trade-offs don’t fit your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the specific vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you want. A pre-purchase inspection is especially smart if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more specialized hardware. Focus on overall condition, cabin wear, and whether the features you care about are actually present.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy trims span the lineup. The base trims use a smaller 4.2-inch center display, while the Limited and Calligraphy get a larger 12.3-inch driver display. The XRT adds a more rugged look, all-terrain tires, and off-road-oriented hardware, but it also gives up efficiency.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. For 2026, Hyundai switched to a traditional eight-speed automatic, which delivers a smoother driving experience.
• Safety package: Hyundai includes a long list of standard safety features, including junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included.
• Infotainment: The Santa Fe uses a dual-screen setup with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with SiriusXM satellite radio and Bluelink+ connected services. Limited and Calligraphy trims add a larger 12.3-inch driver display, and a Bose premium audio system is standard from the Limited trim upward.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard turbocharged engine is not very fuel efficient. The XRT is rated at 21 mpg combined, while other AWD models are rated at 23 mpg combined. The hybrid is rated at 34 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Santa Fe experience without the extra cost of the higher trims. It makes sense if you want the basic three-row layout and standard tech without paying for more luxury or specialty equipment.
• SEL: This is the trim to target if you want a better balance of equipment and value. It builds on the lower trim with more everyday appeal while staying away from the XRT’s efficiency penalty and the higher trims’ price jump.
• XRT: This is the choice if you want the rugged look and actual off-road-oriented hardware. It adds all-terrain tires, a raised suspension, extra ground clearance, and off-road drive modes, but it is the least efficient version and best for buyers who will really use that capability.
• Limited: This is the first trim that clearly steps into upscale territory. It adds the larger 12.3-inch driver display and a Bose premium audio system, making it a strong pick if you want more comfort and tech without going all the way to the top.
• Calligraphy: This is the luxury-leaning choice, and it’s for you if you want the most polished Santa Fe experience. It sits at the top of the lineup and brings the most premium presentation.

Higher trims also bring the Highway Driving Assist setup, while the Limited and Calligraphy add the larger driver display and Bose audio.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

This looks like a favorable time to shop if you want a Santa Fe, because the market shows a healthy mix of deal opportunities and strong clean-inventory levels.

• Deal availability: 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,670 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 94.7% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star individual scores for frontal and side crashworthiness and four stars for rollover resistance. It also earns a 2026 Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai equips the Santa Fe with a long list of standard safety features, including junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, the standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist systems operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included to help keep tabs on the driver.

One caveat: navigation-based speed and curve control for adaptive cruise control can slow the Santa Fe too much, which may make it feel less natural in traffic.

Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 40.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 adds a new transmission, added safety features, and minor equipment and packaging updates.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The 2025 emphasizes bold styling and a longer wheelbase with more interior space.

The bottom line: If you want the latest Santa Fe with updated equipment and strong market availability, the 2026 is the better default choice. If you’re shopping mainly on price and the 2025’s broader value proposition fits your needs, that earlier model year is worth a look.
