Is the 2026 Honda Pilot a good car?

The 2026 Honda Pilot earns a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

That lines up with the Pilot’s role as a family-focused three-row SUV: it keeps the same practical formula, adds a more truck-like look, and still gives you a comfortable cabin with plenty of passenger space and cargo space. It also stands out in a crowded class with clever features, while remaining straightforward and familiar if you already like the Pilot’s approach.

The main trade-off is the lack of a more fuel-efficient model, and the expert notes also point to no hybrid option. For shoppers who want a roomy, easy-to-live-with three-row SUV, that’s a meaningful compromise rather than a dealbreaker.

Good and great deals account for 39.1% of listings, which gives you a decent amount of market choice.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot reliable?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is presented as a carryover in structure and core hardware, which supports the idea that it stays close to a proven formula. The expert summary also describes it as a practical daily driver that is easy to live with, and the performance notes say it accelerates confidently, responds reasonably quickly, and drives much like before.

The powertrain is a familiar 3.5-liter V6 paired with a 10-speed automatic, and the expert notes that the muted V6 sounds more confident than a four-cylinder engine. The cost-effectiveness notes also point to the same powertrain across the lineup, which keeps the ownership experience simple.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that you’re still living with the Pilot’s efficiency limitations over time, especially if you rack up a lot of miles.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing trims with different equipment levels. Focus on overall condition, because the Pilot’s appeal depends heavily on how well the cabin, tech, and family-use features have been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport trim gets the essentials, but it misses automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience equipment, and the Touring trim brings a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the same 3.5-liter V6 with a 10-speed automatic, so you’re not shopping for more power as you move up the lineup. Front-wheel drive is standard on the Sport and EX-L, while all-wheel drive is standard on the other trims.
• Safety package: Every trim gets Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. The base Sport misses automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: All trims get a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto. You need to move up to the EX-L for a wireless phone charger.
• Fuel efficiency: The Pilot is estimated at up to 22 mpg combined, with 19/27 mpg city/highway in front-wheel-drive form. All-wheel drive drops that to 21 mpg combined, with 19/25 mpg city/highway.

Which 2026 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Pilot’s core space, standard tech, and standard Honda Sensing suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting point and don’t need extra comfort features.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the kind of everyday upgrades many families will actually use, including leather seats and a removable second-row seat. It also gets the wireless phone charger.
• TrailSport: Choose this if you want the Pilot’s more rugged character and its decent off-road abilities. It’s the outlier in the lineup for that reason, not because it adds more power.
• Touring: This trim adds a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate, but the expert view is that the price jump is harder to justify.
• Elite: This is for shoppers who want a more upscale Pilot experience and are willing to pay for it.
• Black Edition: This sits at the top of the lineup and is the most style-focused choice.

All trims get Honda Sensing, but the base Sport misses automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have enough inventory to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 39.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,070 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 90.5% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2026 Honda Pilot had not yet been rated by NHTSA or IIHS at the time of writing, but the 2025 Pilot received an overall rating of five-star from NHTSA and was named a Top Safety Pick by IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

All Pilot trims come with Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport model also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

The main caveat is that the forward collision warning can be a bit too sensitive, and lane-departure warning can also be sensitive if you don’t track the lane markings closely.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 39.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• It adds a more truck-like look while keeping the Pilot’s practical formula intact.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It keeps the Pilot’s roomy, practical, easy-to-live-with character.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the Pilot’s familiar formula, the 2026 is the better target. If you’re shopping mainly on value and want the same basic strengths, the 2025 is the smarter price-sensitive path.
