Is the 2026 Honda Pilot a good car?

The 2026 Honda Pilot earns a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It fits your needs well if you want a midsize three-row crossover SUV with a family-first focus, plenty of cargo space, and plenty of passenger space. The 2026 update gives it a more truck-like presence and adds clever features that help it feel more distinctive than many other three-row SUVs.

The main trade-off is that you do not get a hybrid option, so if fuel efficiency is a top priority, you will need to look elsewhere. The Pilot also scores lower in cost effectiveness and technology than it does in practicality and driving polish.

Good and great deals account for 37.0% of listings, which gives you a decent amount of market opportunity.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot reliable?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is presented as a familiar, fundamentally unchanged SUV, which is usually a good sign for long-term dependability because you are not dealing with a major mechanical rethink. Its 3.5-liter V6 and 10-speed automatic carry over, and the driving character remains steady and predictable rather than experimental.

The available information also points to a well-sorted family SUV with strong everyday usability, and the powertrain is described as confident and adequate for merging and passing. That said, the lack of a hybrid means you are still committing to a gasoline-only setup, and fuel economy remains one of the Pilot’s weaker points.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that you are choosing a capable but not especially efficient three-row SUV, so operating costs may be higher than you want if you rack up a lot of miles.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are shopping among higher-mileage family haulers. Focus on overall condition, interior wear, and how well the tech and driver-assistance features work in real use. Because this is a three-row SUV, also pay attention to seat condition, cargo-area wear, and signs of heavy family-duty use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The entry-level Sport trim is the most basic version, while the EX-L adds leather seats and a removable second-row seat. The Touring trim adds a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate, and the Black Edition sits at the top of the range. The TrailSport stands apart for its decent off-road abilities.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the same 3.5-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the Sport and EX-L, while all-wheel drive is standard on the other trims.
• Safety package: Every trim gets Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto. You need to move up to the EX-L for a wireless phone charger.
• Fuel efficiency: The Pilot is estimated at up to 22 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 21 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. The TrailSport drops by about another 1 mpg across the board.

Which 2026 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Pilot experience at the lowest price. It is the trim to consider if you want the basics and do not need the extra comfort or convenience features found higher up.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds leather seats and a removable second-row seat, and it is also the first trim to get a wireless phone charger. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, start here.
• TrailSport: Choose this if you want the Pilot’s more rugged side and its decent off-road abilities. It is the outlier in the lineup for buyers who care more about that character than about maximizing value.
• Touring: This trim adds a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate. It makes sense if you want more luxury and convenience, but the price jump is harder to justify than the EX-L.
• Black Edition: This is the top trim and the most upscale version in the lineup. It is for you if you want the most fully dressed Pilot and are willing to pay for it.

All trims include Honda Sensing, but only the Sport misses out on automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting a fire sale.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,886 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 91.5% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2026 Honda Pilot had not yet been rated by NHTSA or IIHS at the time of writing, but the 2025 model received an overall five-star rating from NHTSA and was named a Top Safety Pick by IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

All Pilot trims come with Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

One caveat is that the forward collision warning can be a bit too sensitive, and lane-departure warning can also be sensitive if you do not track the lane markings closely.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• Choose the 2026 if: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

• Choose the 2026 if: Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

• Choose the 2026 if: It keeps the Pilot’s practical family formula while adding a more truck-like look and larger standard screens.

• Consider the 2025 if: It is roomy, practical, and easy to live with.

The bottom line: If you want the latest Pilot with updated styling and tech, the 2026 is the better default choice. If you are shopping mainly on value and want a proven, roomy family SUV, the 2025 remains a sensible alternative.
