Is the 2026 Honda Pilot a good car?

The 2026 Honda Pilot earns a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

That lines up with the Pilot’s practical mission: you get plenty of passenger space, plenty of cargo space, and a comfortable ride that suits family duty well. It also keeps the same basic formula buyers already liked, even though the new look gives it a more truck-like presence.

The main trade-off is that there is no hybrid option, so you won’t find a more fuel-efficient version here. The Pilot also doesn’t feel sporty, and the price jump to higher trims may not feel worthwhile for every shopper.

With 32.8% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a decent number of market opportunities to compare.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot reliable?

The 2026 Honda Pilot keeps the same basic structure and powertrain approach as before, which supports its case as a familiar, easy-to-live-with family SUV. Its 3.5-liter V6 and 10-speed automatic are described as confident and adequate, and the driving experience is generally calm and predictable.

Honda also gives you a straightforward setup with one powertrain across the lineup, which can make ownership simpler. The Pilot’s practical cabin and unchanged formula suggest a vehicle that should be comfortable for long-term family use.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is still the lack of a hybrid alternative, since fuel costs may stay higher than you’d like.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple trims or looking at higher-mileage examples. Focus on overall condition, since the Pilot’s appeal depends heavily on how well the cabin, tech, and family-use features have been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Sport trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. The EX-L is the value-oriented choice if you want leather seats and a removable second-row seat, while the Touring adds a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses the same 3.5-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. The Sport and EX-L come standard with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive available; all other trims come standard with AWD.
• Safety package: All trims get Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A wireless phone charger is reserved for the EX-L and above.
• Fuel efficiency: The Pilot is estimated to return up to 22 mpg combined with front-wheel drive, 21 mpg combined with AWD, and about 1 mpg less in the TrailSport.

Which 2026 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is offered in 7 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite, Black Edition, and TrailSport.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Pilot’s core space, standard tech, and safety suite at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the most affordable way into the lineup and don’t mind the fewest extras.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds leather seats, a removable second-row seat, and a wireless phone charger, making it the sweet spot for family use without pushing too far up the price ladder.
• TrailSport: Choose this if you want the Pilot’s off-road-leaning setup and can accept slightly lower fuel efficiency. It stands apart from the rest of the lineup for its decent off-road abilities.
• Touring: This trim is for you if you want more luxury and convenience, including a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate. It’s a nicer experience, but the price jump may be harder to justify.
• Elite: This is the upper-end comfort play if you want a more upscale Pilot experience. It sits above the Touring and is aimed at buyers who want more premium content.
• Black Edition: This is the top-of-the-line style-focused choice, with blacked-out exterior trim and red interior accents. It’s the most distinctive-looking version in the lineup.
• TrailSport: If you’re specifically shopping for the off-road-capable version, this is the one to target. It’s the lineup’s outlier for capability, but you’ll give up a bit of efficiency.

All trims come with Honda Sensing, but only the Sport misses out on automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,635 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 91.1% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2026 Honda Pilot’s crash test scores were not available from NHTSA at the time of writing, but the 2025 Pilot received an overall rating of five out of five stars. The IIHS also had not published results for the 2026 Pilot, but it named the 2025 Pilot a Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

All Pilot trims come with the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport model also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

The forward collision warning can be a bit too sensitive, and lane-departure warning can also be sensitive if you don’t track the lane markings closely.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Clever features help the Pilot stand out from other three-row SUVs.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It’s roomy, practical, and easy to live with.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the updated look, larger standard screens, and the same practical Pilot formula. If you’re shopping mainly on price, the 2025 is still the smarter path because it delivers the same core strengths with a simpler value proposition.
