Is the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox a good car?

Yes — the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It comes across as a balanced, well-rounded compact crossover with stylish design, a well-executed interior, and easy-to-use technology. That makes it a strong fit if you want a straightforward small SUV that covers the basics well without trying to be flashy.

The trade-offs are clear: it has less cargo space than rivals, an irritating transmission, and fairly pedestrian performance. Even so, the overall package is broad-appeal rather than niche, which suits buyers who value everyday usability over standout driving dynamics.

39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is meaningful room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Equinox is presented as a familiar, competently executed crossover rather than a risky experiment, and its core strengths are consistency and usability. The expert evaluation also points to a well-assembled cabin and straightforward technology, which are both encouraging signs for day-to-day ownership.

Its powertrain is described as adequate, and the highway manners are generally composed, which supports the idea that it should be easy to live with over time. The main ownership risk for used buyers is that the transmission behavior and modest performance may be more noticeable once the vehicle has some miles on it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Chevrolet Equinox?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the listing matches the seller’s description, especially if you are comparing multiple trims or equipment packages. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing so you can check the transmission behavior, tire condition, and overall wear. Focus on cabin condition and feature operation, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on its interior quality and tech usability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LT, Active, and RS each bring distinct styling cues, and the base LT is the most straightforward version with standard cloth seats and 17-inch wheels. The Active adds a more rugged look with all-terrain tires, while the RS leans sportier with more black trim and larger wheels.
• Powertrain: The only engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four with 175 horsepower. Front-wheel-drive models use a CVT, while all-wheel-drive models use an eight-speed automatic and make 203 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, high-beam assist, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, and rear park-assist. The Safety and Technology Package adds a surround-view camera system, a digital rear-view mirror, rear pedestrian alert, and traffic-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: You get an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen, plus Google built-in apps, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Equinox is rated at 27 mpg combined (26 mpg city, 29 mpg highway), while AWD models are rated 1 mpg lower in the combined and city categories.

Which 2026 Chevrolet Equinox trim should I buy?

The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in 3 trim levels: LT, Active, RS.

Here's the short version:

• LT: This is the best-value trim if you want the Equinox’s core strengths without paying for appearance extras. You still get the standard tech, the well-executed interior, and the broad everyday usability that define the model.
• Active: This is the one to choose if you like the more rugged look and want the unique interior touches, including microfiber and Evotex seats. It is also the trim that best matches the model’s mild outdoor styling theme, though its real off-road advantage is limited.
• RS: This is the style-forward choice, with more black trim, a wider grille, and standard 19-inch wheels. It suits you best if you want the sportiest appearance in the lineup rather than the lowest price.

The Safety and Technology Package adds useful equipment, including the surround-view camera system and digital rear-view mirror.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Chevrolet Equinox?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting deep distress pricing across the board.

• Deal availability: 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,244 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.79% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,986, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox's resale value?

The current average of $27,986 sits slightly below last year's $31,371.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you better entry pricing now than a year ago. For a future seller, that can mean less upside if prices stay soft, but it also means your purchase cost is lower today. If demand remains steady for well-equipped compact SUVs, a clean, well-kept example should still be easier to move than a neglected one.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox safe?

The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox received mixed safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, with Good results in the updated moderate overlap front and side-impact tests and Acceptable results in the whiplash and small overlap front tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, high-beam assist, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with braking, and rear park-assist. GM also includes a vibrating driver’s seat for alerts and the Teen Driver system.

The Safety and Technology Package adds a surround-view camera system, a digital rear-view mirror, rear pedestrian alert, and traffic-sign recognition. The mixed IIHS results are the main caveat to keep in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the focus on the Equinox’s core strengths: stylish design, a well-executed interior, and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $26,118, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $27,986 average.
• It brings a fresher redesign with new standard tech and safety features.

The bottom line: If you want the newer year with strong inventory, softer pricing, and the latest version of the Equinox formula, the 2026 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2025 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one with the equipment you want.
