How much does the 2026 BMW X5 cost?

Prices have softened 4.39% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,467 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers comparing trims and options.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 a good car?

Yes — your 5/5 user rating and the 7.5/10 expert rating both point to a strong overall package. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The 2026 X5 stands out as a midsize luxury SUV that blends style, quality, comfort, tech, and performance in a way few rivals can match. It is offered in multiple versions, and the least expensive 40i models can be optioned with almost everything buyers could want. The lineup also includes the 50e plug-in hybrid, which has 38 miles of electric-only range, along with the M60i and X5 M performance models that bring exclusive options aimed especially at audiophiles with deep pockets.

The trade-offs are worth noting: the ride quality is poor, standard equipment is limited, and the price climbs quickly once options are added. Even so, the model’s breadth of choice makes it easy to prioritize efficiency, luxury, or outright performance within the same lineup.

With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a meaningful share of attractive inventory to consider.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2026 X5’s appeal comes from its mix of premium materials, comfort, and a broad powertrain lineup that lets you tailor the SUV to your needs. The expert review also describes the engine as powerful, and the model’s overall package is positioned as one of the best blends of performance and luxury in the segment.

BMW includes three years or 36,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, which helps soften early ownership costs. The X5 also comes with generous trial subscriptions to various services.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the X5’s premium options and repair exposure can make ownership costs rise quickly if you buy a heavily equipped example.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 BMW X5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a higher-trim or heavily optioned example. Focus on overall condition, because the X5’s value can change quickly with equipment, and the difference between a well-kept SUV and a neglected one can be significant.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes rear-wheel-drive sDrive40i and all-wheel-drive xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, and X5 M Competition models. The base setup is simpler, while higher trims add more luxury, performance, and exclusive equipment.
• Powertrain: BMW offers a variety of six-cylinder and eight-cylinder powertrains, plus the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid with 38 miles of electric range. The more efficient 40i models are rated at 25 mpg combined, while the M60i emphasizes performance over efficiency.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, active blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors. More advanced features are bundled in the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package.
• Infotainment: The BMW Curved Display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel with a 14.9-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with cloud-based navigation and connected services.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive40i and xDrive40i are rated at 25 mpg combined, and the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid offers 38 miles of electric range.

Which 2026 BMW X5 trim should I buy?

The 2026 BMW X5 is offered in 5 trim levels: sDrive40i, xDrive40i, xDrive50e, M60i, X5 M Competition.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive40i: This is the entry point if you want the X5’s core luxury, tech, and comfort without paying for all-wheel drive. It makes the most sense if you want to keep the purchase price lower and plan to add only the options you truly want.
• xDrive40i: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds all-wheel drive while staying in the more accessible part of the lineup. It’s the trim to target if you want broad capability and strong everyday usability.
• xDrive50e: Choose this if efficiency matters and you want the plug-in hybrid’s 38 miles of electric range. It’s the smart pick for buyers who can regularly charge at home or work.
• M60i: This is the performance-focused choice, with the strongest straight-line character and the most exclusive-feeling equipment. It suits you if you want the X5 to feel especially quick and upscale.
• X5 M Competition: This is the most extreme version in the lineup, aimed at buyers who want the most aggressive performance and the most exclusive options.

BMW notes that many advanced safety features are part of the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 BMW X5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough pricing pressure to create opportunities.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,467 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.39% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 96.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $70,535, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 BMW X5's resale value?

The current average of $70,535 sits slightly below last year's $73,772.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you’re planning to resell later, the current trend points to a model that still has demand, but not enough scarcity to support aggressive pricing.

The X5’s broad appeal helps protect value because shoppers can choose among efficiency, luxury, and performance within one nameplate. Strong owner satisfaction also supports demand when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2026 BMW X5 safe?

The 2026 X5 earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and overall NHTSA testing, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it Top Safety Pick+.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes high-beam assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, active blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a speed limit assistant, a driver monitoring system, a collision preparation system, post-collision braking, and parking sensors. More advanced driver-assistance features are bundled in the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package, which adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, automatic emergency stop, evasive steering assist, and Highway Assistant for hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph.

BMW’s lane-keep and lane-centering systems can be less effective away from divided highways, and the automatic lane-change function was described as abrupt. The adaptive cruise control was also cautious in traffic.

Should I buy a 2026 BMW X5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.39% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers five versions, including a plug-in hybrid and performance models with exclusive options.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $56,867, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $70,535 average.
• It remains a polished and versatile luxury SUV with multiple powertrain options.

Consider the 2027 if:

• It brings a thorough redesign with very different styling and updated tech.
• The interior takes a step forward, but cargo space shrinks.

The bottom line: If you want the broadest mix of trims, current-market inventory, and a strong satisfaction signal, the 2026 is the better target. If price matters most, the 2025 is the value play. If you want the newest design and tech direction, it makes sense to wait for the 2027.
