How much does the 2026 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 5.91% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,788 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2026 BMW X3 a good car?

The 2026 BMW X3 earns an expert rating of 6.67/10.

The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

BMW positions the X3 as a compact luxury crossover that blends sports-sedan feel with SUV practicality, and the 2026 update is aimed at making the base model look and feel a little more upscale inside. The expert review also describes it as fun to drive and comfortable, which fits the X3’s appeal if you want something engaging without giving up everyday usefulness.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, the interior materials can feel cheap, and the technology is quirky. That means you should weigh the X3’s driving character and value-conscious base model against the more expensive M50’s extra speed and capability.

Good and great deals percentage: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 BMW X3 reliable?

The 2026 BMW X3 is presented as a well-rounded compact luxury SUV with a strong mix of comfort, performance, and everyday practicality. The expert review also describes the base 30 xDrive as satisfying, which matters if you want a version that feels complete without stretching to the pricier M50.

From a dependability standpoint, the performance notes point to a smooth, refined powertrain with a mild-hybrid system that makes the automatic stop/start system barely noticeable. The cost-effectiveness notes also highlight complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright capability and more about living with BMW’s quirky technology and the possibility that a heavily optioned example may be expensive to keep feeling fresh.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the vehicle has been optioned heavily or driven hard. Focus on cabin condition, tech behavior, and whether the driver-assistance features operate smoothly, since the review notes some quirks in daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 30 xDrive is the value play, while the M50 adds a more upscale feel, stronger performance hardware, and more expensive presentation. The base model is described as good enough that you may prefer its savings over the M50’s extra speed and capability.
• Powertrain: The 30 xDrive uses a 255-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with all-wheel drive, while the M50 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six with 393 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. The M50 is the quicker, more performance-focused choice, but the base engine is still described as sprightly.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and an active blind-spot monitor. The optional Driving Assistance Professional Package adds lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and adaptive cruise control with hands-free traffic jam assist.
• Infotainment: The X3 uses a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen running BMW Operating System 9 with QuickSelect. It also offers cloud-based navigation, Augmented View, a BMW app store, and in-vehicle gaming and video streaming capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The M50 returns 27 mpg in combined driving, and the base model is described as reasonably fuel efficient as well.

Which 2026 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2026 BMW X3 is offered in 2 trim levels: 30 xDrive and M50.

Here's the short version:

• 30 xDrive: This is the best-value choice if you want the X3’s core strengths without paying for the M50’s extra speed. The review says it is good enough that you may happily trade away the M50’s outright performance for significant savings, and it still gets all-wheel drive plus a satisfying driving character.
• M50: Choose this if you want the most powerful and performance-focused X3. It adds the turbo six, stronger acceleration, and hardware such as an M Sport rear differential, M Sport brakes, adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, and an exclusive exhaust system.

The safety-package trim note is that the most advanced driver-assistance features are tied to the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,788 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.91% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 97.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $51,997, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $51,997 sits slightly below last year's $55,262.

That price movement suggests the X3 has softened enough to help you buy more selectively today. If you plan to sell later, the current market gives you a useful benchmark, but it also means you should expect some depreciation pressure if you buy near the top of the range.

For a future seller, the strongest resale position will likely come from a clean-history example with desirable equipment and strong condition. A well-kept X3 should still appeal to shoppers who want a compact luxury SUV with a sporty feel and practical packaging.

Is the 2026 BMW X3 safe?

The 2026 BMW X3 earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with a mix of four- and five-star results across its crash tests, and it earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and an active blind-spot monitor that can add steering help to prevent unsafe lane changes. The optional Driving Assistance Professional Package adds lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and adaptive cruise control with hands-free traffic jam assist.

The review also notes that the system can react too aggressively in some situations, including a hard-braking event triggered by cyclists in a bike lane. That means the X3’s safety tech is broad and advanced, but you should still test its behavior carefully during your own drive.

Should I buy a 2026 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.91% compared with last year.
• The 2026 update makes the base model look and feel a little more upscale inside.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $45,326, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $51,997 average.
• It offers a bargain-like value proposition with comfort, technology, and driving dynamics.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version with a slightly more upscale base interior and a softer market, the 2026 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable with the earlier redesign, the 2025 is the smarter price-sensitive path.
