How much does the 2026 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 4.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,635 listings available, which suggests you should have a solid range of inventory to compare.

Is the 2026 BMW X3 a good car?

The 2026 BMW X3 earns an expert rating of 6.7/10.

The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

BMW positions the X3 as a compact luxury crossover that blends sports-sedan flavor with everyday practicality, and the 2026 updates are aimed at making the base model feel a little more upscale inside. That lines up with the expert take: it’s fun to drive, comfortable, and a good value for money.

The trade-offs are clear, though. The design may be polarizing, the interior materials are described as feeling cheap, and the technology is quirky.

For you, that means the X3 makes the most sense if driving enjoyment matters as much as utility. There are 34.2% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 BMW X3 reliable?

BMW describes the X3 as a compact luxury crossover with a strong everyday focus, and the expert review also emphasizes that it’s comfortable and cost-effective compared with key rivals. The performance notes point to a refined powertrain setup, with the base engine described as remarkably sprightly and the mild-hybrid system helping make stop/start behavior barely noticeable.

BMW also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which is a useful ownership perk for a used buyer. Even so, the X3’s quirky technology and the expert review’s mixed impressions of its driver-assistance behavior suggest you should pay close attention to how the systems work in real-world use.

For long-term ownership, the main risk is less about outright mechanical weakness and more about living with complex tech and making sure the vehicle has been maintained and updated properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a heavily optioned example. Focus on the condition of the cabin, the behavior of the infotainment system, and whether the driver-assistance features operate smoothly without false alerts or abrupt interventions.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the 30 xDrive and the M50. The base model is described as good enough that some shoppers may prefer its lower price over the M50’s extra speed and capability, while the M50 adds a more performance-focused character.
• Powertrain: The 30 xDrive uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower, while the M50 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six with 393 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. The base model is described as sprightly, and the M50 is the one to get if you want the speedier SUV.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and an active blind-spot monitor that can add steering to help prevent unsafe lane changes. The optional Driving Assistance Professional Package adds lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and adaptive cruise control with hands-free traffic jam assist.
• Infotainment: The BMW Curved Display includes a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system runs BMW Operating System 9 with QuickSelect and offers cloud-based navigation, Augmented View video, a BMW app store, and in-vehicle gaming and video streaming capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The official fuel economy rating is 27 mpg in combined driving, and the review notes that the X3 is reasonably fuel efficient.

Which 2026 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2026 BMW X3 is offered in 2 trim levels: 30 xDrive and M50.

Here's the short version:

• 30 xDrive: This is the best-value choice if you want the X3’s core strengths without paying for the M50’s extra speed. The review says it’s already good enough that you may be happy trading away the M50’s outright performance for significant savings, and it still comes across as satisfying and fun to drive.
• M50: Choose this if you want the quickest, most capable version and you’re willing to pay for it. It adds the turbocharged inline-six, performance hardware, and the most dramatic acceleration, but the review also makes clear that the price jump is hard to justify unless speed is your priority.

The safety package is broad, and the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package adds more advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,635 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.84% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 97.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $51,649, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2026 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $51,649 sits slightly below last year's $54,277.

That price movement suggests the X3 has softened enough to help you buy more selectively today. If you’re a future seller, it also means you should expect some depreciation pressure unless your vehicle is especially well equipped, low mileage, and in excellent condition.

Because the market has already moved down 4.84%, resale value will likely depend heavily on trim, mileage, and overall presentation. A clean, well-maintained X3 should still be easier to move than one with visible wear or unresolved tech issues.

Is the 2026 BMW X3 safe?

The 2026 BMW X3 earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with a mix of four- and five-star results, and it also earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and an active blind-spot monitor that can add steering to help prevent unsafe lane changes. The optional Driving Assistance Professional Package adds lane-centering assist, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, and adaptive cruise control with hands-free traffic jam assist.

The expert review also notes that the system can react too aggressively in some situations, including a hard-braking false alert. That makes it worth testing the safety tech carefully on your own drive.

Should I buy a 2026 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 97.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.84% compared with last year.
• BMW’s 2026 updates make the base model look and feel a little more upscale inside.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $44,674, the 2025 costs less than the current year's $51,649 average.
• The 2025 is a driver-focused compact luxury SUV with impressive technology and rewarding comfort.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year updates and are comfortable shopping in the current market, the 2026 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money, the 2025 is the smarter value play.

How does the 2026 BMW X3 compare to the 2026 Audi Q5?

2026 Audi Q5:

• Pros: Intuitive infotainment, Refined ride and confident performance, Good amount of standard equipment.
• Cons: Cheap interior materials, Ergonomic issues, High price.

Our experts score the 2026 BMW X3 6.7/10 and the 2026 Audi Q5 6.5/10. The BMW has the edge if you care most about driving enjoyment and value, while the Audi leans more toward a refined ride and easier-to-use infotainment.
