Is the 2026 BMW 8 Series a good car?

The 2026 BMW 8 Series stands out as a luxury grand tourer that blends strong performance with a polished, high-tech cabin. It offers a comfortable but sporty ride and handling, and it also benefits from excellent rear passenger room.

That combination makes it a strong fit if you want something upscale and capable without sacrificing everyday usability. It also has a broad performance spread, with available engines ranging from a 3.0-liter inline-six with 394 horsepower to a 4.4-liter V8 with 536 hp, plus plug-in hybrid versions rated at 483 hp and 560 hp.

The tradeoffs are familiar for this class: options can be expensive, depreciation is high, and the turning circle is poor. On the market side, 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there is some room to shop selectively.

The 2026 BMW 8 Series is presented as a polished, high-tech luxury grand tourer with a comfortable but sporty ride and handling, plus excellent rear passenger room. Its broad powertrain lineup and mild-hybrid support also point to a car engineered for strong performance with some attention to efficiency.

At the same time, the same tradeoffs that come with this class still matter: expensive options, high depreciation, and a poor turning circle. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about cost exposure and depreciation than basic usability.
