Is the 2026 Acura MDX a good car?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It’s a sporty-looking, comfortable, and reliable three-row crossover SUV that’s intended for on-road use rather than off-road adventures. Acura’s styling is a major part of the appeal, and the cabin quality, easy-to-use technology, and ride-and-handling balance all support its everyday friendliness.

The main trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, fuel economy is poor, and there’s no hybrid option. Even so, the MDX remains a strong value play among midsize three-row rivals, and its 38.4% good-or-great deal share suggests there are still worthwhile listings to find.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX reliable?

The 2026 Acura MDX is described as reliable, and it’s positioned as a comfortable, quiet, and well-built crossover that suits paved-road driving. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that it feels solid and structurally robust in daily use.

Its performance notes reinforce that impression: the V6 is responsive, the transmission behaves well, the brakes are easy to modulate, and the chassis handles speed bumps with ease. Acura also frames the MDX as a vehicle meant for regular road use rather than off-road exploration, which fits its mission and helps keep ownership expectations realistic.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term risk is that you’ll be living with a three-row SUV that doesn’t deliver strong fuel economy and doesn’t offer a hybrid fallback.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Acura MDX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and focus on how the cabin, electronics, and driver-assistance features have held up. Because the MDX is a technology-heavy luxury SUV, it’s worth checking that the infotainment system, cameras, and driver aids all work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Technology Package models come standard with front-wheel drive, while higher trims add more upscale styling and equipment. The A-Spec and A-Spec Advance bring blacked-out exterior trim, subtle styling changes, and bolder interior treatments, while the Type S Advance adds a more powerful turbocharged engine and other upgrades.
• Powertrain: Most models use a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. SH-AWD adds torque vectoring and raises towing capacity to 5,000 pounds, compared with 3,500 pounds for front-wheel-drive models. The Type S uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 hp and 354 lb-ft.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard. Most models get parking sensors with low-speed braking, while more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: The MDX uses a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, and a 10.5-inch head-up display is available. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, Amazon Alexa Built-in, and Google Built-in are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA estimate is 21 mpg combined, and the expert evaluation recorded 17.9 mpg on one loop and 19.2 mpg over a longer stretch.

Which 2026 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2026 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance.

Here’s the short version:

• base: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core MDX experience with front-wheel drive standard and the option to add all-wheel drive. It makes sense if you want the MDX’s style, comfort, and tech without paying for extras.
• Technology: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete luxury experience without jumping too far up the price ladder. It keeps the MDX’s easy-to-use tech and adds more equipment than the base model.
• A-Spec: Choose this if styling matters most. It adds blacked-out wheels and trim, plus a sportier interior look, while keeping the same basic mechanical setup.
• Advance: This trim is for you if comfort and upscale features matter more than appearance tweaks. It builds on the MDX’s luxury mission with a more premium feel.
• A-Spec Advance: This is the sweet spot for shoppers who want the strongest mix of style and equipment. It combines the A-Spec’s visual upgrades with Advance-level content, making it the most well-rounded choice for many buyers.
• Type S Advance: Pick this if you want the most performance-focused MDX. It swaps in the twin-turbo V6 and adds other upgrades, making it the clear choice for buyers who care most about power and driving character.

Most MDX models include AcuraWatch, while the more expensive variants add a surround-view camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Acura MDX?

The market looks moderate and selective right now, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and focused.

• Deal availability: 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,977 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 96.0% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX safe?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA for FWD models. IIHS ratings for the 2026 model are not yet published, though the nearly identical 2025 MDX was an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch is the MDX’s driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard.

Most MDX models add parking sensors with low-speed braking, while more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system. One caveat is that the lane-departure warning still brings steering-wheel wobble, and lane-centering can cycle on and off in some situations.

Should I buy a 2026 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• Choose the 2026 if:

  • 38.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
  • Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
  • It keeps the refreshed MDX formula with only minor color changes and the same strong on-road comfort and tech.

• Consider the 2025 if:

  • The refreshed model brings a broader update and a similarly appealing mix of style, simplicity, and refinement.

• The bottom line: The 2026 is the right pick if you want the latest version of Acura’s refreshed MDX with strong tech, comfort, and value. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers much of the same appeal and may offer a better deal depending on the listing.
