Is the 2026 Acura MDX a good car?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns a 7.67/10 expert rating, and it fits well if you want a premium three-row SUV that emphasizes style, comfort, and everyday drivability. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It stands out for its stylish design, comfortable cabin, and easy-to-use technology, and it is described as a good-value choice among midsize three-row rivals. The trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, fuel economy is poor, and there is no hybrid option. Even so, the MDX remains focused on on-road comfort and handling rather than off-road use, which matches its polished, family-friendly mission.

Good and great deals account for 38.6% of listings, which suggests there is still meaningful market availability for shoppers who want to compare prices carefully.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX reliable?

The 2026 Acura MDX is described as reliable and built for on-road use, with a quiet, solid feel that supports long-term confidence. Its V6 powertrain is presented as responsive and durable in daily driving, and the SUV’s overall character leans toward comfort and refinement rather than complexity.

The performance content also notes that the transmission behaves well, the brakes are easy to modulate, and the chassis feels structurally robust. Acura’s emphasis on straightforward controls and a conventional gasoline powertrain should help keep ownership straightforward, while the lack of a hybrid option means there is one less powertrain system to worry about. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that poor fuel economy can make ownership costs feel higher over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Acura MDX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or a vehicle with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, technology operation, and whether the vehicle’s features match the trim level you expect. Because the MDX is a premium family SUV, wear in the third row, cargo area, and driver-assistance systems is worth checking closely.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model starts with a simpler specification, while Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance add equipment and visual upgrades. Base and Technology Package models come standard with front-wheel drive but can be equipped with AWD for an extra $2,200, while A-Spec and A-Spec Advance include blacked-out wheels and exterior trim, subtle styling changes, and bolder interior treatments. The Type S Advance adds a more powerful turbocharged engine and other upgrades.
• Powertrain: Most MDX models use a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and driving modes including Snow, Comfort, Normal, and Sport. SH-AWD adds torque vectoring and raises towing capacity to 5,000 pounds, compared with 3,500 pounds for FWD models. The Type S uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard. Most MDX models have parking sensors with low-speed braking, while the more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: The MDX uses a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a 10.5-inch head-up display available. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, Amazon Alexa Built-in, and Google Built-in are included, along with a three-year complimentary subscription to Google services.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA fuel economy estimate is 21 mpg combined, and the MDX returned 17.9 mpg on one evaluation loop and 19.2 mpg over 160 miles of driving.

Which 2026 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2026 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the MDX’s core comfort, technology, and utility without paying for appearance or luxury upgrades. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with a simpler specification.
• Technology: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds equipment while staying close to the MDX’s practical, easy-to-use character. It also keeps the option of front-wheel drive or AWD, which gives you flexibility on price and traction needs.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want a sportier look, with blacked-out wheels and exterior trim plus bolder interior treatments. It is mainly about style and presentation rather than mechanical changes.
• Advance: This trim is for you if comfort and upscale features matter more than appearance tweaks. It builds toward a more premium experience without moving into the Type S performance territory.
• A-Spec Advance: This is the right pick if you want the most distinctive non-Type S look and a richer cabin treatment. It combines the A-Spec styling theme with the Advance equipment set.
• Type S Advance: Pick this if you want the most powerful and performance-focused MDX, with the twin-turbocharged V6 and other upgrades. It is the trim for buyers who care most about stronger acceleration and a more athletic character.

Most MDX models have parking sensors with low-speed braking, while the more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Acura MDX?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you have enough inventory to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,087 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.6% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX safe?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA for FWD models. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not published ratings for the 2026 MDX, but the nearly identical 2025 model was an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch bundles the MDX’s driver aids, including forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard. Most MDX models have parking sensors with low-speed braking, while the more expensive variants offer a surround-view camera system.

Should I buy a 2026 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• It carries over the refreshed MDX formula with only minor updates and keeps the strong tech and comfort mix.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The refreshed model introduced a simpler, more polished cabin and user interface.

The bottom line: The 2026 MDX makes sense if you want the latest version of Acura’s comfortable, tech-friendly three-row SUV and you value a healthy share of good deals in the market. If you are shopping primarily on price, the 2025 is worth a look because it delivers the refreshed MDX experience with a similar overall mission.
