How much does the 2025 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 9.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,500 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 a good car?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 earns an 8.33/10 expert rating, and the standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The XC90’s appeal comes from its updated styling, refreshed materials, and more polished presentation, while still keeping the three-row layout and familiar trim structure. It’s also described as a well-rounded flagship SUV with user-friendly technology and a strong safety reputation.

The main trade-offs are that semi-autonomous driving is not available, and the top-tier sound system costs extra even on the top trim.

For shoppers who want a stylish, safety-focused three-row SUV with a premium feel, the XC90 fits that brief well.

35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 reliable?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is presented as a polished, familiar SUV that builds on an already strong reputation, with mechanical tweaks aimed at improving ride comfort and handling. The expert drive notes that the B5 and B6 are the more user-friendly, hassle-free options, since you do not have to manage charging to avoid fuel-economy consequences.

The performance notes also point to standard AWD, an eight-speed automatic, and a mild-hybrid setup on the B5 and B6 that improves fuel economy and smooths power delivery. The plug-in hybrid T8 adds electric capability, but it needs to be plugged in regularly to keep the battery charged and serving its fuel-saving purpose.

If you want the simplest long-term ownership experience, the mild-hybrid versions are the safer used-buying bet.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing higher-mileage examples or more heavily optioned trims. Focus on overall condition, equipment operation, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Core, Plus, and Ultra each bring different equipment levels, and the base trim leaves out some of the more upscale touches. The crystal shift knob is standard at the Plus and Ultra trim levels, and the top trim adds more premium presentation.
• Powertrain: The XC90 offers B5, B6, and T8 powertrains. The B5 is a mild-hybrid four-cylinder with 247 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, the B6 adds turbo- and e-supercharging for 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, and the T8 plug-in hybrid delivers 455 horsepower, 523 lb-ft of torque, and up to 33 miles of pure-electric range.
• Safety package: Standard advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection. The XC90 does not offer a hands-free highway-driving system.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen is larger, sharper, and uses a new user interface with a fixed menu bar and contextual bar. Apple CarPlay is standard and works wirelessly or via USB-C cable, and the top-end Ultra trim adds a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The T8 plug-in hybrid offers up to 27 mpg and up to 33 miles of pure-electric range.

Which 2025 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, and Ultra.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the XC90’s core strengths without stretching into higher-priced equipment. It makes the most sense if you care most about the standard three-row layout, the mild-hybrid powertrain, and the XC90’s safety and style.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more of the upscale feel that makes the XC90 stand out. It also gets the crystal shift knob, which helps the cabin feel more premium.
• Ultra: Choose this if you want the most luxurious XC90 experience and are willing to pay for it. It adds the head-up display and the premium audio upgrade path, but the top-tier sound system still costs extra.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, which gives you room to shop carefully and wait for the right listing.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,500 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $51,664, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $51,664 sits slightly below last year's $56,791.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has softened enough to help used buyers today, but it also means sellers may need to be realistic on asking price. If you own one, a clean history and strong equipment list should help support value better than mileage alone.

For future resale, the strongest examples will likely be the ones with desirable trims, clean records, and the right powertrain for the buyer pool. The current market also suggests that well-priced listings should move faster than overpriced ones.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is too new to have been crash-tested by independent safety organizations, but its predecessors as well as the automaker itself have established quite the reputation.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection. The system is described as operating smoothly and not interfering erroneously during testing.

One important caveat is that the XC90 does not offer a hands-free highway-driving system, which some rival midsize three-row SUVs do.

Should I buy a 2025 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.
• The refreshed styling, materials, and feature updates matter to you.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $45,077, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $51,664 average.
• It remains an appealing choice in the luxury SUV segment.

The bottom line: Choose the 2025 if you want the more polished, updated XC90 and are comfortable paying more for it. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the better value path and still delivers the XC90’s core appeal.
