Is the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI a good car?

The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI earns an 7.8/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

It remains a strong choice if you want a useful hatchback that is also fun to drive, and the updated tech and everyday practicality help broaden its appeal. The trade-offs are that the price increase reduces overall value, and the haptic slider controls remain frustrating. Even so, the GTI still stands out as one of the best hatchbacks you can buy today. Is the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI reliable?

The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI is presented as a well-rounded, everyday-friendly hatchback with a strong powertrain and a solid warranty. Its performance notes emphasize that the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine delivers the same power and character this year, and the car’s practical packaging supports low-stress daily use.

Volkswagen also includes scheduled maintenance for the first two years, which helps reduce early ownership hassle. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the GTI’s higher pricing and performance-oriented hardware make condition and maintenance history especially important.

• Safety package: The standard IQ.Drive suite includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-keeping assist, and a semi-automated driving assist feature. • Infotainment: A 12.9-inch touchscreen is standard, along with navigation, voice commands, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a ventilated 15W wireless charging pad. The SE adds a premium Harman Kardon stereo and keyless entry, and the Autobahn adds a head-up display.
