The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI earns a 7.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

For 2025, the GTI is still positioned as a highly appealing hatchback that blends everyday practicality with a terrific powertrain. The expert review also highlights improved technology and impressive fuel economy, which makes it a strong fit if you want a useful car that is also extremely fun to drive.

The trade-offs are clear: the price increase reduces overall value, and the haptic slider controls remain frustrating. Even so, the market signal is still favorable, with 43.5% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI reliable?

The 2025 Volkswagen Golf GTI is presented as a well-rounded, practical hatchback with strong everyday appeal, and the expert review emphasizes that it remains a compelling choice despite its changes for 2025. Its powertrain is described as terrific, and the car’s fuel economy and usability support the case for dependable day-to-day ownership.

The performance notes also point to a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers strong output and works with a quick-shifting automatic transmission. On the ownership side, Volkswagen includes scheduled maintenance for the first two years, which helps reduce early upkeep burden.

• Trim level: The S trim has a new Carbon Gray interior theme and classic plaid seats, while the SE adds new ClubSport ArtVelours seats and can be optioned with Vienna leather through the Leather Seating Package. • Safety package: Standard IQ.Drive includes forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-keeping assist, and semi-automated driving assist. Road-sign recognition is standard, while adaptive headlights move up to the SE and Park Assist Plus with throttle control is reserved for the Autobahn.
• Infotainment: The GTI uses a 12.9-inch touchscreen and includes navigation, voice commands, SiriusXM satellite radio, wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, and a ventilated 15W wireless charging pad as standard equipment. The SE adds a premium Harman Kardon stereo and keyless entry, and the Autobahn adds a head-up display.
