How much does the 2025 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have softened 2.16% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 387 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 earns a 7.8/10 expert rating, and the standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

The GR86 is positioned as an affordable sports coupe that still works for weekend errands, so you get a fun-first driving experience without needing a luxury-car budget. Its stylish design and great handling are major strengths, and the manual transmission adds to its enthusiast appeal.

The main trade-offs are the cramped back seat and outdated technology. That means you should expect to prioritize driving enjoyment over rear-seat usefulness and modern infotainment polish.

With 27.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is presented as a straightforward gasoline sports coupe with average warranty coverage for the class, which helps support ownership confidence. Its performance-focused setup is built around a 2.4-liter boxer-four, rear-wheel drive, and a manual or automatic transmission, so the mechanical formula is simple and familiar.

Toyota includes scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles, plus 24-hour roadside assistance for two years, which adds some early ownership convenience. The car’s performance-oriented nature and firm ride mean long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about whether you can live with its sporty compromises over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because sports cars are more likely to have been driven hard. Focus on overall condition, signs of track use, tire wear, brake wear, and whether the car’s maintenance history matches its mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim uses cloth seats, while the Premium and Hakone Edition add Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats. Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so the base car misses that feature.
• Powertrain: The GR86 uses a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The automatic is quicker to shift, but the manual is the more engaging choice.
• Safety package: Every GR86 gets forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard and is limited to Premium and Hakone Edition models.
• Infotainment: The GR86 uses an 8-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It does not have native navigation, and the system is basic rather than cutting-edge.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic is rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The manual is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Premium, and Hakone Edition.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the least expensive way into the GR86, and it still gives you the core driving experience, but you miss blind-spot monitoring and the upgraded seat materials found higher up.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the most balanced mix of equipment and usability, since it adds blind-spot monitoring and the nicer Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats.
• Hakone Edition: This is the special-edition choice if you want the most distinctive look, with Ridge Green paint and 18-inch satin bronze wheels, plus the same upgraded seat materials as the Premium.

Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so that safety upgrade is a strong reason to skip the base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 387 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.16% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,010, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $32,773 sits slightly below last year's $33,495.

That softer pricing suggests the GR86 is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. If you plan to sell later, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained.

Because this is a niche sports coupe, clean examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher cars. A well-kept manual or a special edition is likely to be easier to market than a higher-mileage example with visible wear.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 earns Good ratings from IIHS in crashworthiness and crash avoidance and mitigation, and Acceptable for child seat anchors.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Every GR86 gets forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is only available on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so the base trim leaves you without that extra layer of awareness.

The safety setup is solid for a small sports car, but the rear visibility is poor and the adaptive cruise control lacks stop-and-go functionality. That means you should treat the GR86 as a driver-focused coupe first and a family-friendly safety pick second.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.16% compared with last year.
• The 2025 adds performance upgrades and the limited-production Hakone Edition.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It sharpens the GR86’s driver-focused character with even more emphasis on handling and track-ready fun.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and special-edition appeal, the 2025 is the smarter buy. If your priority is maximum driving engagement and you’re less concerned about practicality, the 2026 is worth a look; if you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2025’s softer pricing makes it the more approachable choice.
