How much does the 2025 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have softened 2.08% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 362 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 earns an expert rating of 7.83/10.

The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

You’re looking at an affordable sports coupe that’s built around driving enjoyment, with a manual transmission option, strong handling, and a design that stands out without pushing into luxury-car pricing. The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and the technology is outdated, so you’re prioritizing fun and style over everyday practicality and modern features.

The expert cons are the cramped back seat and outdated technology.

With 26.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is positioned as a straightforward gasoline sports coupe with a simple, enthusiast-focused formula, which helps keep the ownership experience easy to understand. Its performance setup centers on a 2.4-liter boxer-four engine, rear-wheel drive, and either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, so there’s less complexity than you’d find in many higher-priced performance cars.

Toyota also includes two years or 25,000 miles of scheduled maintenance coverage, which is a useful ownership perk for a used-car buyer. The long-term risk to watch is that this is still a small sports car with firm suspension tuning and a performance-first mission, so wear items and previous driving style matter more than they would on a commuter car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a sports coupe like this may have been driven harder than an average commuter car. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on tires, brakes, suspension condition, and signs of track use or curb damage. Pay close attention to whether the car’s equipment matches the trim level and whether the cabin and exterior show wear consistent with the mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim uses cloth seats, while the Premium and Hakone special edition get Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats. The Premium and Hakone Edition also add blind-spot monitoring, which is a meaningful gap if you want more confidence in daily driving.
• Powertrain: The GR86 uses a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and you can get it with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The automatic is quicker to shift, but the manual is the enthusiast choice.
• Safety package: Every GR86 gets forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is limited to Premium and Hakone Edition models, and the adaptive cruise control does not have stop-and-go functionality.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. The system is basic, the graphics are dated, and there is no native navigation system.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic is rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined, while the manual is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Premium, and Hakone Edition.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the GR86 formula, but you give up the Premium and Hakone Edition’s blind-spot monitoring and upgraded seat materials. It still delivers the core GR86 experience, so it makes sense if you care most about price and driving feel.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds blind-spot monitoring and upgraded Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats. If you want the most balanced mix of everyday usability and enthusiast appeal, this is the one to target.
• Hakone Edition: This is the special-edition choice if you want the most distinctive look, with Ridge Green paint and 18-inch satin bronze wheels. It also gets the Premium-style seat upgrade and blind-spot monitoring, but you’re mainly paying for exclusivity and appearance.

Blind-spot monitoring is only offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so the base trim is the one with the biggest safety-equipment gap.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

The market looks moderate, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 362 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.08% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,022, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $32,815 sits slightly below last year's $33,511.

That tells you the GR86 has softened a bit in the used market, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it suggests you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim rather than broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher cars, especially because enthusiast buyers tend to reward clean history and the right options.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 earns Good ratings from IIHS and meets NHTSA performance criteria for forward collision warning, lane departure warning, crash imminent braking, and dynamic brake support.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Every GR86 gets forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is reserved for Premium and Hakone Edition models, and the adaptive cruise control does not include stop-and-go functionality. The safety setup is solid for a sports coupe, but the car’s rear visibility is poor and the base trim misses one of the most useful driver-assistance features.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 26.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.08% compared with last year.
• It adds performance upgrades and the limited-production Hakone Edition.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It sharpens the driver-focused formula with even more emphasis on engagement.

The bottom line: If you want the better shopping opportunity right now, the 2025 is the smarter target because pricing has eased and inventory is available. If you’re focused more on the newest version of the formula than on value, the 2026 is worth a look, but price-sensitive buyers should start with the 2025 and focus on clean, well-equipped examples.
