How much does the 2025 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have softened 2.90% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 364 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 earns an expert rating of 7.83/10. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

It’s built for you if you want an affordable two-door coupe that feels at home on a twisty mountain road and still works for weekend errands. The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and the technology is outdated.

That mix makes the GR86 especially appealing if driving enjoyment matters more to you than everyday practicality. With 28.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is positioned as a straightforward sports car rather than a complicated one, which helps keep ownership expectations simple. Its 2.4-liter boxer-four and rear-wheel-drive layout are paired with a six-speed manual or automatic, and the car’s performance focus is backed by a limited-slip differential and a mechanical handbrake.

Toyota also includes scheduled maintenance coverage for two years or 25,000 miles, plus roadside assistance for two years. That helps soften early ownership costs, especially if you plan to drive the car regularly.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a fun, affordable sports car can be more likely to have been driven hard, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a sports car like this may have seen spirited use. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on tires, brakes, suspension wear, and signs of track or hard-road driving. The cabin and rear-seat condition can also tell you a lot about how the car was treated.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim uses cloth seats, while the Premium and Hakone special edition add Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats. The base model also misses blind-spot monitoring, which is offered on Premium and Hakone Edition models.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic. The automatic is quicker to 60 mph than the manual, but the manual is the enthusiast choice.
• Safety package: Every GR86 gets forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is limited to Premium and Hakone Edition models, and the adaptive cruise control does not have stop-and-go functionality.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses an eight-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is basic, there’s no native navigation, and the interface can feel slow.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic is rated at 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The manual is rated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Premium, Hakone Edition.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core GR86 experience with cloth seats and the same 2.4-liter boxer-four performance. It’s the trim to consider if you want the lowest price and can live without blind-spot monitoring.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the more upscale Ultrasuede and leather-trimmed seats and blind-spot monitoring. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort and safety equipment, this is the one to target.
• Hakone Edition: This limited-production model adds the special Ridge Green look with 18-inch satin bronze wheels and the same upgraded seat materials as Premium. It’s the pick if you want the most distinctive appearance and don’t mind paying more for exclusivity.

Blind-spot monitoring is only available on Premium and Hakone Edition models, so that safety upgrade is a strong reason to move up from the base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 364 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.90% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,035, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $32,661 sits slightly below last year's $33,636.

That tells you the GR86 has softened a bit in the market, which can help you as a buyer today. If you plan to sell later, the current pricing suggests you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim.

Well-kept examples should hold up better than rough ones because enthusiast cars tend to be judged quickly by their history and presentation. A Premium or Hakone Edition may also be easier to position later if it stays clean and unmodified.

Is the 2025 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2025 Toyota GR86 earns Good ratings from IIHS in crashworthiness and crash avoidance and mitigation, and Acceptable for child seat anchors.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Every GR86 comes with forward collision warning, pre-collision braking, lead vehicle start alert, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is reserved for Premium and Hakone Edition models, and the adaptive cruise control lacks stop-and-go functionality.

The safety setup is solid for a sports car, but rear visibility is poor and the forward collision warning can be overly sensitive. That means you should pay close attention to how the driver-assistance systems behave during your test drive.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.90% compared with last year.
• It adds performance upgrades and a limited-production Hakone Edition.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It sharpens driver engagement while keeping the GR86 formula focused on fun.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, inventory, and enthusiast appeal, the 2025 is the smart place to start. If you’re mainly chasing the newest version of the same driving character and don’t mind paying more, the 2026 is worth a look. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2025 offers the better shopping environment right now.
