overall

Summary
With 110 currently listed for sale near Portland, OR and an average price of $50,134.00, 37.3% of 2025 Toyota 4Runners for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner arrives as a long-awaited redesign that keeps the formula familiar while adding more capability, power, comfort, and technology. It is also described as more efficient thanks to a new hybrid option and more composed on pavement, while still remaining a solid all-terrain vehicle for extending adventures further.
What stands out most is that Toyota did not throw out the formula with this newly redesigned 4Runner. Instead, the 2025 model keeps many of the features shoppers have liked for over a decade and adds a more contemporary selection of four-cylinder powertrains. Its stylish design and excellent off-road abilities are clear strengths, and its relatively fuel-efficient nature adds to its appeal for buyers who want a rugged SUV that is easier to live with day to day.
There are still tradeoffs, though. The main drawback called out is limited rear-seat space, so shoppers who prioritize passenger room may want to take that into account. Even so, the 2025 Toyota 4Runner’s mix of updated technology, improved efficiency, and proven all-terrain capability makes it distinctive in a way that stays true to its identity.

Reviewed a 2025 Toyota SR5 4WD on Apr 5, 2025
In love with this car, I think the car is fantastic value. Of course, with this being a new drivetrain time will tell if reliability lives up to the previous gens. Outside of that consideration the car is an absolute blast and I love the new 4 cylinder turbo. It feels very dialed in and the power is great, the car just wants to take off and it feels genuinely quick. I just switched from a 2018 F-150 and the suspension was a massive upgrade, the car feels planted and rugged but still soft enough on the bumps you’re comfortable driving. Very impressed with the safety features and tech with this being a base model. The car will let me know via the app when I’ve left something in the backseat or left a window open of door unlocked! As well the screen despite being the “small” screen is still a great size and has the same features as the larger one. The seats are cloth and I love the fabric, design, and feel of them. My car has the grey seats and the look genuinely solid. The interior has a lot of plastic as is to be expected but the design is sleek and looks very premium. Despite the interior having a decent amount of plastic components it feels very well constructed and all of the functions and pieces, whether shifting the car into a different drive mode, open and closing the door, temperature controls, etc. have a very nice feel to it. The speakers are phenomenal, the bass is genuinely crazy and the sound quality is crisp, you would find it hard to believe this is the cheaper sound system! From what my salesman was telling me even the 8 speaker bass system are JBL speakers and while I haven’t verified by reading up on it, the performance of it seems to match for sure! The capability, cargo space, and even leg room in the back are great as well for a car its size and class. As well it feels nimble to drive, has a great turning radius and just looks fantastic. I took the air dam off of mine (that big plastic lip hanging off the front bumper) it took 5 minutes and could be accomplished with a Phillips head or common 10mm socket. If that hanging off the front makes you apprehensive of the new look it’s very easy to remove and the difference is night and day! Fair warning it caused a slight hit to mpg, usually less than 1 mpg from what I’ve heard but I haven’t confirmed myself but it frees up a whole 5 1/2 inches of ground clearance in the front so if you plan to take it off road definitely worth removing. Overall I’m in love with this car and highly recommend it if you’re in the market for a capable off road suv. If reliability holds up as well as previous models as much as I love Ford I would have a very hard time switching back from Toyota!!

Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner a good car?
Yes — the 2025 Toyota 4Runner earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.
It stands out as a rugged midsize SUV with modern technology, a new hybrid powertrain option, and a cabin that balances comfort with durability. The standard turbocharged four-cylinder brings strong output, while the hybrid adds even more torque for tougher terrain and lower-speed driving.
The main trade-off is that rear-seat space is limited, so you should weigh that against the 4Runner’s off-road strength and updated tech. Inventory is fairly healthy, with 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2025 4Runner is presented as a durable, capability-focused SUV with Toyota’s reputation for reliability behind it. Its new-generation design also brings more refinement, better on-road composure, and improved efficiency compared with the outgoing setup.
The standard four-cylinder is described as more powerful than the previous V6, and the hybrid adds stronger low-speed usable power for off-road driving. The cabin is also quieter than before, which should help reduce fatigue on longer trips.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the vehicle’s off-road use and maintenance history match its intended purpose.
What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota 4Runner?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has seen trail use. Focus on underbody condition, tire wear, suspension components, and signs of hard off-road driving. It’s also worth checking that the tech and driver-assistance features work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin uses a purposeful design with plenty of hard plastic for durability, but it is still more refined than some rivals. The base setup includes a sliding rear window, while the interior is nearly identical to the Tacoma’s layout.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 317 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. The hybrid version raises output to 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque and is the stronger choice for low-speed off-road use.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 comes standard with frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is optional.
- Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard on supporting trims, while a 14-inch screen is available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered, along with a wireless charging pad and a digital instrument panel on Hybrid variants.
- Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is estimated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The hybrid is estimated at 23/24/23.
Which 2025 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 9 trim levels: SR5, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and the other trims explicitly referenced in the model-year content.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SR5 is the entry point, but it lacks the more advanced off-road hardware and the richer tech and convenience features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: A TRD Off-Road model is the best balance if you want serious capability without jumping all the way to the most expensive adventure-focused versions.
- Premium/top trim: TRD Pro and Trailhunter bring the most impressive off-road hardware and the strongest adventure focus, along with the highest capability in the lineup.
- Off-road trim: Trailhunter can add wind noise from its snorkel, which may matter if you spend a lot of time on highways.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts remains optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota 4Runner?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,817 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.69% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 95.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $48,877.37, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?
The current average of $52,192 sits slightly below last year's $55,340.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also suggests the market has already adjusted downward from prior levels. If you plan to sell later, the 4Runner’s strong capability and broad appeal should help support demand.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
All 4Runner models come standard with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced safety features that include frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high beams. It also includes Proactive Driving Assist, though that system could be too intrusive for many drivers. Thankfully, you can disable it.
Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is optional, so you should check whether a used example has that added. Crash test results are not yet available for this model year.
Should I buy a 2025 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.69% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings a redesigned platform, more power, better efficiency, and more modern tech than the outgoing model.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $46,543, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $52,192 average.
- It remains a strong off-road contender with a reputation for durability.
The bottom line: If you want the newest 4Runner with the biggest leap in powertrain, tech, and refinement, the 2025 is the better long-term pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you can live without the redesign’s upgrades, the 2024 is the value play.
