How much does the 2025 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 6.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,024 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — with a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating, it lands as a strong all-around compact crossover. The 2025 Forester leans into practicality, standard all-wheel drive, a quieter cabin than before, and more advanced tech and safety offerings, while keeping the same function-first character that has made it one of Subaru’s top sellers.

The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The main trade-offs are generic styling and dated infotainment graphics, and there is no hybrid option available. That makes it a better fit if you value everyday usefulness, all-weather confidence, and a better-equipped base model more than flash or cutting-edge cabin design.

33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2025 Forester’s reliability case is built around Subaru’s familiar formula: standard all-wheel drive, a practical layout, and a powertrain that prioritizes steady, predictable operation over excitement. The expert notes also point to a quieter cabin for 2025, which can matter over time because less noise and vibration usually make daily ownership feel more settled.

The performance notes also emphasize that the Forester’s standard AWD system and X-Mode setup are designed to improve stability and traction on slippery surfaces or challenging terrain. That kind of dependability-minded tuning is a good sign if you plan to use the vehicle year-round.

If you buy used, the main long-term risk is that the model’s conservative powertrain and tech setup may feel less modern than rivals as mileage climbs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Even with a strong clean-listing share, you should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on cabin condition, infotainment behavior, and whether the vehicle’s features work as expected, since the Forester’s value is tied closely to its standard equipment and everyday usability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is better equipped than before, but it still uses two 7-inch touchscreens and wired smartphone projection instead of the larger system found higher up. The Sport adds bronze exterior accents and StarTex seating, while Limited and Touring bring genuine leather seating surfaces.
• Powertrain: Every 2025 Forester uses a 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. X-Mode becomes standard at the Premium trim level, and Sport and higher trims get a dual-function version.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard, along with a rear seat reminder system and a wider field of view from a third standard camera. Emergency Stop Assist is available only on vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, which essentially limits it to the Touring trim.
• Infotainment: The 11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system is standard on all but the base trim and includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The base Forester keeps the simpler dual-screen setup, wired smartphone projection, and USB-A-only support.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates the Forester at 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. Sport and Touring trims take a slight hit at 25/32/28.

Which 2025 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the Forester’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get standard all-wheel drive, the quieter cabin improvements, and the standard safety suite, but you give up the larger infotainment setup and some convenience upgrades.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds X-Mode, which improves stability and traction on slippery surfaces or challenging terrain, while also unlocking more of the Forester’s everyday usability upgrades.
• Sport: This trim adds the bronze exterior accents, StarTex seating, and the dual-function X-Mode setup. It suits you if you want a more distinctive look and a bit more equipment without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a digital rearview mirror, surround view monitor, reverse automatic braking, and access to Emergency Stop Assist. It’s the right pick if you want the most comfort and safety tech.

Touring is also the trim where the driver-distraction mitigation system unlocks Emergency Stop Assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,024 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,063, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $31,063 sits slightly below last year's $33,269.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The Forester’s broad appeal, standard all-wheel drive, and practical reputation should help support demand, but resale will still depend heavily on trim, condition, and mileage.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2025 Subaru Forester is too new to have been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite comes standard, and for 2025 it gains a wider field of view thanks to a third standard camera that can spot cyclists and pedestrians earlier. A rear seat reminder system is also standard, and Subaru adds an electric brake booster as part of the safety package.

Emergency Stop Assist is a notable available feature: if adaptive cruise control is active and the system detects that the driver is unresponsive, it can try to regain attention, slow the vehicle to a stop, notify emergency services, activate the hazard lights, and unlock the doors. That feature is limited to vehicles equipped with the driver distraction-mitigation system, which essentially means Touring trim.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a better-equipped base model, more advanced tech and safety offerings, and a quieter cabin.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds all-terrain tires, more ground clearance, and extra off-road-focused hardware.

The bottom line: If you want the broadest mix of value, inventory, and updated equipment, the 2025 is the safer buy. If your priorities lean toward rugged capability and you’re willing to wait for a more specialized version, the 2026 may be the better path. For price-sensitive shoppers, the 2025 still looks especially appealing because the market has already softened and inventory is healthy.
