Used 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata for Sale nearSanta Cruz, CA

Is the 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?

The 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 7.5/10 expert rating, and the standout strength is Performance at 10/10. It is a rear-wheel-drive, two-seat convertible that stays focused on driving enjoyment, with a six-speed manual standard and a choice of soft top or hard top. That makes it a strong fit if you want a simple, engaging roadster rather than maximum practicality.

The trade-offs are clear: cargo space is limited, the interior is cramped, and the technology can be hard to use. It is not the right choice if you want lots of space or straight-line power, but if you value handling, precision, and open-air fun, that is exactly the point. Good and great deals account for 42.1% of listings, which gives you a decent chance to find a competitive price.

Is the 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?

The 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata is presented as a straightforward, back-to-basics sports car, and that simplicity generally supports long-term dependability. Its 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, rear-wheel-drive layout, and manual transmission keep the mechanical formula relatively uncomplicated, and the car’s performance tuning is centered on balance and control rather than high-strain output.

Mazda also backs it with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty, plus 24/7 roadside assistance for three years or 36,000 miles. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about living with a small, tightly packaged sports car that may see harder-than-average use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a car with the optional performance package or the retractable hard top. Focus on condition, because this is a low-slung sports car that may have been driven enthusiastically and because the cabin and cargo area are already limited.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The soft-top model is offered in Sport, Club, and Grand Touring trims, while the RF hard-top version is only available in Club and Grand Touring trims. The base trim is the most stripped-down, while the Grand Touring adds more comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: Every MX-5 gets a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque, and rear-wheel drive is standard. A six-speed manual is standard, while a six-speed automatic is available only on the Grand Touring trim.
• Safety package: Every trim gets lane-departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, and cruise control. The Grand Touring trim adds automatic high beams and traffic sign recognition, and automatic-transmission models also get adaptive cruise control and a distance and speed alert.
• Infotainment: The infotainment system uses an 8.8-inch screen controlled by a rotary dial. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and they are wireless on Club and Grand Touring trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The MX-5 Miata earns 26 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 29 mpg combined.

• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• It stays true to the lightweight, driver-focused roadster formula with sharp handling and a manual-first personality.

• It adds new steering, a reworked limited-slip rear differential, and a more updated infotainment setup.

The bottom line: If you want the purest current Miata experience, the 2025 is the better default choice because it keeps the formula focused and the market looks healthy. If you are shopping mainly on value and want a nearby year with meaningful updates, the 2024 is worth a look.
