How much does the 2025 Land Rover Defender cost?

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender a good car?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender earns an expert rating of 7.5/10.

The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

The Defender’s broad lineup gives you multiple body styles and multiple powertrain choices, and it’s described as rugged but refined, comfortable yet capable, and plenty of fun to drive. The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and poor handling on pavement.

For buyers who want a vehicle that can handle off-road use without giving up everyday refinement, that mix is compelling. The market also looks reasonably accessible, with 35.2% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender reliable?

The Defender is presented as a capable SUV with a four-year/50,000-mile warranty and roadside assistance that can help cover unexpected repairs during a typical lease term. Its off-road hardware and refined driver aids suggest a vehicle built to do more than just look the part.

The performance notes also point to a robust, smooth powertrain and standard all-wheel drive with low range, which supports confidence in demanding use. Land Rover’s own description emphasizes that the Defender is equipped for off-roading right out of the box, with additional tech available for tougher terrain.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a premium, highly equipped SUV like this can be costly to keep over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

Even with a strong clean-inventory share, you should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection. Focus on how the vehicle has been used, whether it has the right equipment for your needs, and whether the condition matches the asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 110 four-door is the sweet spot in the lineup, while the 90 is the short two-door and the 130 is the extended four-door. Base pricing starts at $58,525 for a 90 without options, and the lineup stretches much higher as equipment rises.
• Powertrain: The Defender is offered with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, plus turbocharged or supercharged V8 options. The six-cylinder setup is described as smooth and strong, with robust acceleration and standard all-wheel drive with low range.
• Safety package: Land Rover includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go. Lane-centering assist is available when using adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: You get an 11.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, a configurable digital driver display, and connected services. The system also includes a Wi-Fi hotspot and remote engine start.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle returned 16.2 mpg on the observed loop, and the window sticker called for 19 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2025 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2025 Land Rover Defender is offered in 3 trim levels: 90, 110, 130.

Here's the short version:

• 90: This is the shortest and most maneuverable Defender, and it suits you best if you want the classic two-door layout and the most compact footprint.
• 110: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it’s the sweet spot in the lineup, balancing the Defender’s rugged character with the most broadly useful four-door layout.
• 130: Choose this if you want the most passenger and cargo space, especially if you need the extended four-door body style and can live with its larger size.

Land Rover’s safety and driver-assistance features are broadly available, with lane-centering assist tied to adaptive cruise control.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Land Rover Defender?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting forever for a perfect deal.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,644 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.28% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $67,627, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $67,627 sits slightly below last year's $73,733.

That price decline suggests the market has moved in your favor if you’re buying now. For a future seller, it means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than assuming the model will hold its price unchanged.

Because the Defender is a premium SUV with a broad lineup, well-kept examples should still attract interest. But the softer pricing trend means you may not recover as much as you would have when prices were higher.

Is the 2025 Land Rover Defender safe?

The Defender’s crash-test ratings were unavailable at press time.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Land Rover equips the Defender with automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. Lane-centering assist is available when you use adaptive cruise control, and the system includes selectable assistance modes for more or less intervention.

One caveat is that the lane-keep assist can be quite assertive, and in testing it attempted to steer the vehicle into a turnout area. That’s worth keeping in mind if you prefer a lighter touch from driver aids.

Should I buy a 2025 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.28% compared with last year.
• The 2025 adds the high-performance Defender OCTA and keeps the lineup broad and versatile.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $56,405, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $67,627 average.
• It adds new trims and features while expanding V8 availability.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It brings subtle styling updates, a larger touchscreen, and new color and accessory options.

The bottom line: If you want the most current mix of capability, tech, and lineup breadth, the 2025 is the strongest all-around pick. If price matters most, the 2024 is the smarter value play, while the 2026 makes sense if you want the latest updates and can pay more.
