Is the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 a good car?

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 earns an expert rating of 8.67/10.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Hyundai keeps the formula focused on what already works: distinctive styling, a broad public charging network, and standard advanced safety features. That makes it a strong fit if you want an EV that feels easy to live with while still standing out from the crowd.

The main trade-offs are that competitors have more storage space and real leather is not available.

At 37.5%, the share of good and great deals suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 reliable?

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is presented as a well-sorted EV that Hyundai has improved without upsetting the core package. The expert summary emphasizes that the brand has avoided unnecessary changes and kept the things that were already working well.

Its performance notes point to a straightforward electric setup with strong instant torque, and the model’s charging support and long warranty help reinforce the ownership case. Hyundai also includes a complimentary ChargePoint charger installation or $400 in charging credit, which can make early ownership easier.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery and charging history are healthy, since that matters more than traditional engine wear on an EV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple trims or higher-mileage examples. Focus on overall condition, charging behavior, tire wear, and whether the car has been used mostly for home charging or frequent DC fast charging.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE trim is the most basic version, and the base setup appears to lose blind-spot collision-avoidance assist for this model year. Higher trims add more convenience and safety equipment, so you should compare feature content carefully if you want the best value.
• Powertrain: The Ioniq 5 is offered with single-motor rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive. RWD models produce 168 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque with the standard-range battery, or 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque with the long-range battery, while AWD models make 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque.
• Safety package: Hyundai’s driver-assistance suite includes Highway Driving Assist 1 on the base trim and Highway Driving Assist 2 on SEL, XRT, and Limited. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, an enhanced driver attention system with haptic steering wheel feedback and hands-on detection, forward attention warning, and reverse and forward parking-distance warning.
• Infotainment: You get twin 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, standard navigation, dynamic voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity for two devices, and five USB-C ports. The Bose Premium Audio system is limited to the Limited and XRT trims, and the head-up display is exclusive to the Limited.
• Range & charging: The base trim is rated at 245 miles of range, while most single-motor RWD versions can travel 318 miles. AWD versions are rated at 290 miles for SE and SEL, 269 miles for the larger-wheeled Limited, and 259 miles for the XRT. Hyundai also says buyers can choose between a complimentary ChargePoint charger installation or $400 in charging credit.
• Battery health: Check the battery state of health, confirm normal charging behavior, and review how often the car has relied on DC fast charging versus home charging. You should also verify how much of the five-year/60,000-mile new-car warranty remains.

Which 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is offered in 5 trim levels: SE Standard Range, SE, SEL, Limited, XRT.

Here's the short version:

• SE Standard Range: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and can live with the most basic range and equipment mix. It makes the most sense if you’re shopping strictly for value and don’t need the extra convenience features found higher up.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it balances range, equipment, and price without pushing you into the more expensive luxury-oriented versions. It also gives you access to AWD if you want it.
• SEL: This is the smart step-up if you want more comfort and tech, including the wireless charging pad and Highway Driving Assist 2. It’s a good fit if you want a more complete daily-driver setup without going all the way to the top trim.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale feature set, including the head-up display and the most advanced convenience and safety equipment. It’s the right pick if you want the most polished version of the Ioniq 5.
• XRT: This is the most distinctive choice, with its rugged styling cues, all-wheel drive, Terrain Mode, and added off-pavement attitude. It suits you best if you want the most character and don’t mind paying for the specialty look and equipment.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the base trim appears to lose blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, so that’s worth checking if you’re comparing entry-level examples.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,484 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.50% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,090, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5's resale value?

The current average of $31,090 sits slightly below last year's $36,363.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you better buying leverage now than it did a year ago. If you buy well, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the Ioniq 5’s value is still being supported by strong demand and a desirable feature set, but the recent decline means you should be realistic about resale expectations. Buying at the lower end of the current range should help protect you better when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 safe?

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai’s safety suite is comprehensive and has grown for 2025, with an enhanced driver attention system, forward attention warning, reverse and forward parking-distance warning, and available Highway Driving Assist 2 on SEL, XRT, and Limited. The base trim appears to lose blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, so that’s a feature gap worth noting if you’re shopping entry-level examples.

Should I buy a 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.50% compared with last year.
• Hyundai makes minor but welcome changes and avoids tweaking the many things that were working well.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It keeps the Ioniq 5’s strengths while emphasizing faster charging and better everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the better shopping environment and a model that already feels well sorted, the 2025 is the safer buy. If you’re willing to wait for the newer version’s refinements and don’t mind paying more, the 2026 is the alternative to watch. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2025’s softer pricing makes it the more compelling path right now.
