Why it stands out
The 2025 Ford Expedition stands out as a large SUV that combines interior space with strong towing capability, making it a practical choice for shoppers who need both. It is all-new for the 2025 model year, and Ford has kept the exterior styling subdued while giving the cabin a tech-forward look that feels impressively futuristic. The result is an SUV that aims to be both useful and modern, rather than flashy.
This model year also brings a new Tremor trim level, which gives the Expedition a more off-road-focused character and makes it the most capable version yet for venturing away from pavement. The Expedition is also described as surprisingly easy to drive in everyday circumstances, which is a useful trait for something this large. Its strengths include powerful engines and impressive technology, though buyers should be prepared for thirsty engines and for some tech features to require an additional subscription.

Great vehicle! Perfect family vehicle and great to travel long distances with plenty of space

I compared this to the Tahoe, Navigator and Sequoia. I chose the Expedition for the rugged ability to tow, 4x4, and yet luxury of great suspension and decent gas mileage for size. The new 2025 dash is amazing. The 2026 packages are changing so I needed to purchase in 2025 to get all the stealth options , retractable running boards and avoid the increase in pricing.

Is the 2025 Ford Expedition reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2025 Expedition is presented as a practical, capability-focused SUV with a strong emphasis on everyday usability, and its standard equipment list suggests Ford built it to handle family duty without feeling stripped down. The expert review also highlights that it is surprisingly easy to drive for something this large, which is a useful sign for long-term ownership.
Its powertrain is described as having no trouble bringing the vehicle up to highway speed, and the transmission and suspension are called out for quiet, confident operation over rough pavement. Ford also includes one year of complimentary access to its connected tech package, which can soften the ownership experience early on if you plan to use the built-in digital features.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Expedition’s size, fuel use, and subscription-dependent tech can make ownership more expensive than the purchase price alone suggests.
What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Ford Expedition?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a large SUV where wear can hide in the brakes, suspension, and electronics. Focus on how the cabin tech works, whether the drivetrain feels smooth, and whether the vehicle shows signs of hard towing or heavy family use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Active trim already comes with tri-zone automatic climate control, power-folding rear seats, and the 24-inch panoramic driver information display, while the King Ranch adds significantly nicer materials and Del Rio leather seating. The Tremor adds a more off-road-focused character, and the standard trim lineup gives you a wide spread of equipment to compare.
- Powertrain: Every 2025 Expedition uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6. The standard version makes 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, while the Tremor gets a high-output version with 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, and that higher-output engine is also available on Platinum.
- Safety package: Ford includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, Pro-Trailer Hitch Assist, and Pro-Trailer Backup Assist as standard equipment. BlueCruise 1.4 is available on Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch.
- Infotainment: The Expedition uses a 13.2-inch touchscreen with Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play store, plus a 24-inch driver information display. The system requires the Ford Connectivity Package for full functionality, though wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay projection can help if you skip the subscription.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates 2WD models at 16 mpg city, 24 highway, and 18 combined, while 4WD models are rated at 15/22/18.
Which 2025 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?
The 2025 Ford Expedition is offered in 4 trim levels: Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch.
Here's the short version:
- Active: This is the best-value trim if you want the Expedition’s core strengths without jumping too far up the price ladder. It already brings a lot of standard equipment, including tri-zone automatic climate control, power-folding rear seats, and the 24-inch panoramic driver information display, plus standard rear-wheel drive.
- Platinum: Choose this if you want more luxury and the available high-output version of the V6. It is the trim where the stronger engine is available, so it makes sense if you want more performance without going all the way to the Tremor’s off-road focus.
- Tremor: This is the one to buy if you want the most capability away from pavement. It adds the high-output engine, standard 4WD, 33-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, an electronic locking rear axle, and extra ground clearance.
- King Ranch: Pick this if you want the most upscale feel. The review highlights significantly nicer materials and Del Rio leather seating, making it the most premium-feeling version tested.
BlueCruise 1.4 is available on Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch, so you can get hands-free driving tech without moving to a specific luxury-only setup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Ford Expedition?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,713 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 21.53% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $60,425.79, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2025 Ford Expedition's resale value?
The current average of $60,388 sits slightly below last year's $76,956.
That kind of price movement can help you buy more SUV for the money today, but it also means a future seller may face a softer resale environment than owners saw a year ago. If you plan to keep the Expedition for several years, the current market gives you a better entry point, but you should still think about how mileage, condition, and trim choice will affect exit value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2025 Ford Expedition safe?
The 2025 Ford Expedition has not yet been rated by NHTSA, and IIHS testing on the updated model is not yet available in a way that fully reflects this generation’s crashworthiness.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford equips the Expedition with a strong standard safety suite that includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, Pro-Trailer Hitch Assist, and Pro-Trailer Backup Assist. BlueCruise 1.4 is available on Active, Platinum, Tremor, and King Ranch, but it requires the proper hardware and a subscription after the trial period.
The main caveat is that the available crash-test information is limited and based on a previous-generation model, so you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and your own inspection when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2025 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 21.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2025 model year is all-new, with a futuristic cabin and the new Tremor trim that expands off-road capability.
The bottom line: If you want the newest Expedition with the freshest tech, the 2025 is the clear path to take. If your priority is simply getting into a large, capable SUV at the lowest possible price, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2025’s updated cabin, strong standard equipment, and softer pricing make it the more compelling starting point for most shoppers.
