How much does the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas cost?

Prices have softened 10.23% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,686 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

It stands out as Volkswagen’s biggest vehicle, and for 2024 it gets more power, more standard features, and more lights. It remains a three-row midsize crossover SUV engineered specifically for the United States market, so its mission is clear: deliver space and practicality in a crowded family-SUV segment.

The trade-offs are just as clear. The Atlas is not trying to be the most exciting choice in the class, and the expert notes call its performance fairly pedestrian and its ride quality poor. Haptic controls are also a recurring annoyance.

Even so, the roomy cabin and standard advanced safety features make it a strong fit if you want a practical family SUV with a lot of everyday usefulness. The market also looks reasonably open, with 39.4% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 Atlas is presented as a practical, family-focused SUV with a straightforward mission, and the expert notes emphasize its space, standard safety equipment, and updated powertrain. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is described as pulling strongly and smoothly, and it delivers more power than the previous version while running on regular fuel.

Volkswagen also includes two years or 20,000 miles of scheduled maintenance and three years or 36,000 miles of roadside assistance, which helps reduce early ownership friction. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright complexity and more about whether the vehicle has been maintained well and whether its cabin and chassis have held up to family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volkswagen Atlas?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, cabin wear, and whether the vehicle’s features and driver-assistance systems operate as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Atlas gets a refreshed look for 2024, including new lighting elements, new wheel designs, and a more functional interior layout. Base models are simpler, while higher trims add more upscale materials and equipment, and SE with Technology models add a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting as standard equipment.
• Powertrain: The lineup uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque on regular fuel. It pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and is offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: VW’s IQ.Drive package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Predictive adaptive cruise control is standard on SEL and higher trim levels, while the SEL Premium R-Line adds park assist and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: A 12-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless phone charging. A dash cam port is included on SE with Technology and higher trim levels, and a head-up display is standard on SEL and higher trim levels.
• Fuel efficiency: The Atlas is rated at 23 mpg combined, 20 mpg city, and 27 mpg highway with front-wheel drive, or 22 mpg combined, 19 mpg city, and 26 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.

Which 2024 Volkswagen Atlas trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SE with Technology, SEL, and SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it still brings a lot of value with a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and the full array of driver-assist features. It is the best fit if you want the lowest-cost way into the Atlas without giving up the core family-friendly equipment.
• SE with Technology: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more convenience and a more upscale feel, including a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting as standard equipment. It also unlocks the dash cam port, making it a smart middle ground if you want more features without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SEL: This trim adds a more premium ownership experience, including a head-up display and predictive adaptive cruise control. It is a good choice if you want more advanced convenience and driver-assistance tech.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the top trim, and it adds the most upscale presentation with 21-inch wheels, sportier styling elements, park assist, and a surround-view camera system. It suits you best if you want the most fully equipped Atlas and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package starts with IQ.Drive, and higher trims add more advanced features, so the sweet spot for many buyers is the SE with Technology or SEL depending on how much driver-assist tech you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Volkswagen Atlas?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to compare listings and wait for the right example.

• Deal availability: 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,686 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.23% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,568, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $30,923 sits slightly below last year's $34,447.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than broad market momentum alone.

Because the Atlas is a practical family SUV with strong space and standard safety equipment, well-kept examples should continue to attract shoppers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas safe?

The 2024 Atlas earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash testing and four-star ratings in frontal and rollover tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

VW’s IQ.Drive package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist for highway driving, while predictive adaptive cruise control is standard on SEL and higher trim levels.

The Atlas also includes automatic post-collision braking, a crash response system that shuts off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors, and turns on the hazards after a crash, plus emergency assist that can bring the vehicle to a stop if the driver is incapacitated. One caveat is that IIHS ratings were not yet released for the 2024 model at the time of publication.

Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 update adds more power, more standard features, and a refreshed look.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $31,639, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $30,923 average.
• It adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and wireless charging.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2024 is the stronger buy because prices have softened and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to pay a bit more for a newer model year with a few added standard features, the 2025 is worth a look; otherwise, the 2024 gives you the more compelling mix of price, equipment, and availability.
