CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Toyota GR86

Summary
With 523 currently listed for sale and an average price of $31,274, 24.5% of 2024 Toyota GR86s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Toyota GR86 5 / 5 stars.
79.7% of 2024 GR86 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 Toyota GR86 stands out as a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that stays true to the classic formula. It uses a 2.4-liter boxer engine and offers a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Toyota also gave it a small rear seat for occasional use, which reinforces that this is a driver-focused car first and foremost.
For 2024, Toyota added a Performance Package with SACHS dampers and Brembo brakes, and it also introduced the GR86 Trueno Edition with a two-tone paint job in Halo and black or Track bRed and black. Another notable update was the extension of Toyota’s Active Safety Suite to manual-transmission models; that suite includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, sway warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, and high-beam assist. Those changes make the 2024 GR86 more appealing to buyers who want a sharper chassis and more safety equipment without losing the car’s playful character.
The GR86’s appeal is also rooted in its balance of performance and value. It was estimated to return 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined with the manual transmission, while the automatic was rated at 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. At the same time, it still asks buyers to accept a cramped back seat, outdated technology, and a firm ride, so its strengths are clearest for shoppers who prioritize driving enjoyment over everyday practicality.

Reviewed a 2024 Toyota GR86 on May 19, 2024
In the past three years Ive purchased a new Porsche Cayman, a new Hyundai Veloster, and this GR86. The Porsche was unreliable from day one and the dealer never could repair it. The Veloster was quirky looking, but it performed better than the Porsche and its 8 speed DCT was MUCH better than the 7 speed DCT in the Porsche. But the GR86 looks better than either of the other two and is more fun to drive because of the manual transmission. The GR86 doesnt have quite as much horsepower but it handles better and because it is a non turbo, I expect better long term reliability.

There are 528 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2024 Toyota GR86 a good car?
Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for the 2024 Toyota GR86, and it fits a car built around driving enjoyment. The overview describes it as a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe with a 2.4-liter boxer engine, a six-speed manual or automatic, and a small rear seat that keeps the focus on the driver. It also highlights the added Performance Package, the Trueno Edition, and expanded safety equipment, which makes the car more appealing if you want a playful coupe with some modern features. With 27.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Toyota GR86 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview points to a simple, driver-focused formula rather than a complicated one, which can be appealing if you want a car that stays true to its purpose. It also notes the addition of more safety equipment for 2024, including automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control on manual models. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a sports coupe like this may have been driven hard, so condition matters more than mileage alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota GR86?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Put the inspection priority on signs of hard use, since this is a performance-oriented coupe that may have seen spirited driving. Focus on overall condition, especially the suspension, brakes, tires, and interior wear, because those clues can tell you more than the odometer alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Toyota GR86?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 528 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.32% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $30,397, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Toyota GR86's resale value?
The current average of $31,319 sits slightly below last year's $31,737.
That small decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now if you plan to resell later. Because the price movement is modest rather than steep, the model still appears to hold value reasonably well for a niche sports coupe. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a better shot at preserving value when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2024 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.32% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $29,591, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $31,319 average.
- It emphasizes road feel and fun over practicality.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $32,821, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $31,319 average.
- It adds performance upgrades and a limited-edition special model.
The bottom line: The 2024 is the best all-around pick if you want the latest mix of value, safety updates, and enthusiast appeal. If your budget is tighter, the 2023 is the better price-first alternative, while the 2025 makes sense if you want to pay more for the newer updates and special-edition appeal.
