Summary
With 111 currently listed for sale near Omaha, NE and an average price of $48,640, 51.4% of 2024 Toyota 4Runners for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Toyota 4Runner 4.17 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 4.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner stands out as a rugged, off-road-focused SUV with a strong reputation for reliability and durability. It is described as an accomplished off-road-capable vehicle, and its all-terrain capabilities remain one of its clearest strengths. Buyers who value utility will also appreciate its plenty of cargo space, which helps make it practical as well as tough.
At the same time, the 2024 Toyota 4Runner shows its age in ways that matter to many shoppers. It trails newer rivals when it comes to technology, safety features, fuel efficiency, and power, and its aging platform is said to be in desperate need of a full redesign. The driving experience is also a weak point, with poor handling, sluggish performance, and poor fuel economy among its drawbacks. Even so, owners are often pleased with its spaciousness, power, and aesthetics, and some also praise the improved ride quality along with features such as heated seats and blind spot monitoring.

The features are great. However, I have it a 4 because the color is off!!! If you look at the photo it is obviously Red. The description says it is Terra. I called the dealership and it is defininetly not red but a brown color, terra cotta.

If you want a rugged SUV with plenty of cargo space and off-road utility, that mix may work for you; if you want a more modern all-around commuter, the compromises are harder to ignore. Good and great deals account for 33.7% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner reliable?
Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable in day-to-day use, with praise centered on spaciousness, power, and improved ride quality. The expert assessment also emphasizes the 4Runner’s strong reputation for reliability and durability, which reinforces its long-term appeal. On the cost side, the model’s straightforward, truck-like setup can be a plus for durability-minded buyers, though its age means you should still pay close attention to wear, maintenance history, and how hard it has been used.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has seen off-road use or heavy commuting. Focus on signs of wear in the suspension, tires, brakes, and interior controls, since this model’s rugged mission can hide hard use. It also makes sense to verify that the features you want are present, because equipment varies meaningfully by trim.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The range-topping TRD Pro adds underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a beefy tubular roof rack, while the interior still feels old-school with an analog instrument panel and an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to the feature gaps if they want a more modern cabin experience.
- Powertrain: Every 2024 4Runner uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Most trims are rear-wheel drive with four-wheel drive available, while the TRD Pro comes standard with 4WD and a two-speed transfer case.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and 4Runner Limited also add a surround-view camera system, but only the Limited gets front and rear parking proximity sensors.
- Infotainment: You get standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on an eight-inch touchscreen, and the TRD Pro adds a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system. The setup is functional, but the screen is small by modern standards and can be harder to use while driving.
- Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.
Which 2024 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 2 trim levels: SR5 and TRD Pro.
Here's the short version:
- SR5: This is the entry point and the best fit if you want the lowest-cost path into the 4Runner lineup. It gives you the core 4Runner formula, but you should expect the most basic version of the cabin and equipment set.
- TRD Pro: This is the one to choose if you want the most off-road-focused setup, with underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, a tubular roof rack, standard 4WD, and a two-speed transfer case. It also adds the 15-speaker JBL audio system, though the louder exhaust and road noise can make that upgrade harder to appreciate on the move.
The safety package includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert; the Limited also adds front and rear parking proximity sensors, while the TRD Pro and Limited get a surround-view camera system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,913 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 5.32% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 92.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,835, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?
The current average of $46,820 sits slightly above last year's $44,455.
That upward move suggests the 2024 model is holding value well in the near term, which can help if you decide to sell after a few years of ownership. Strong demand for rugged SUVs and the 4Runner’s reputation for durability both support pricing, especially when the vehicle is clean and well maintained. If you buy carefully and keep mileage and condition in check, you should have a decent chance of preserving value relative to many mainstream SUVs.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner safe?
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings for overall and frontal crash protection, five-star ratings in side impacts, and three-star ratings in rollover evaluations from NHTSA. The IIHS gives it a Good rating in the original moderate frontal overlap crash test and side protection tests, but the newer small overlap frontal test brings in incomplete results with some Marginal and Poor ratings.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
You get adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert as standard equipment. The TRD Pro and 4Runner Limited also include a surround-view camera system, while only the Limited adds front and rear parking proximity sensors. The mixed crash-test results, especially the weaker small-overlap outcome, are the main safety caveat to keep in mind.
Should I buy a 2024 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices are up 5.32% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It remains a rugged, off-road-focused SUV with strong durability and cargo utility.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $44,377, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $46,820 average.
- It keeps interest alive with updated trims and special editions.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $50,581, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $46,820 average.
- It brings more capability, power, comfort, and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the current-generation 4Runner and value rugged utility, the 2024 is the straightforward choice. If price matters most, the 2023 is the smarter path because it costs less while staying close in overall character. If you can stretch for a newer redesign, the 2025 is the better long-term bet for buyers who want more refinement and technology.
