How much does the 2024 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices are up 9.01% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.17/5 user rating and a 4.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 6/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, power, and styling, and they also highlight the improved ride quality plus features like heated seats and blind spot monitoring. The overview points to a rugged, off-road-focused SUV with plenty of cargo space, which fits buyers who care more about toughness and all-terrain ability than modern polish. The main trade-offs are its aging platform, poor handling, sluggish performance, and poor fuel economy.

Only 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is moderately selective rather than especially bargain-heavy.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on spaciousness, power, and a durable-feeling setup. The expert review also emphasizes reliability and durability, reinforcing the sense that this is a truck-like SUV you can count on over time. The performance write-up adds that its off-road hardware and simple powertrain are built for hard use, which supports its long-term toughness.

If you buy used, the bigger ownership risk is less about complexity and more about age-related wear, especially on examples that have seen heavy use or skipped maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has been used for towing, trail driving, or long commutes. Focus on overall condition, because the 4Runner’s rugged mission can hide hard use better than a more carlike SUV. Pay close attention to signs of wear in the suspension, tires, brakes, and interior trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The range-topping TRD Pro adds underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a beefy tubular roof rack, while the cabin still shows its age with an analog instrument panel and an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen. The base setup is more old-school and less polished, so you should expect fewer modern touches as you move down the lineup.
• Powertrain: Every 2024 4Runner uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Most trims are rear-wheel drive with four-wheel drive available, while the TRD Pro comes standard with 4WD and a two-speed transfer case.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and Limited add a surround-view camera system, and only the Limited gets front and rear parking proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: The system uses an eight-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It does not offer the more advanced off-road apps and gauges found in some rivals, and there is no mention of wireless smartphone integration or over-the-air updates.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.

Which 2024 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 1 trim level: SR5.

Here's the short version:

The SR5: is the trim to focus on if you want the core 4Runner formula without paying for the upper-end off-road extras. It gives you the same V6 powertrain and the same rugged character, but you should expect the older infotainment setup and the general lack of modern polish that define this generation. If you want the best value, this is the trim to start with because the rest of the lineup mainly layers on equipment rather than changing the 4Runner’s basic personality.

If you find a listing below $40,827, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $47,153 sits slightly above last year's $43,256.

That upward move suggests the 2024 model year is holding demand well in the used market. For a future seller, that kind of price strength can help support a healthier resale position if the vehicle stays clean and well maintained. The 4Runner’s loyal following and strong owner satisfaction also help keep buyer interest steady.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings for overall and frontal crash protection, five-star ratings for side impacts, and three-star ratings in rollover evaluations from NHTSA. The IIHS gave it a Good rating for the original moderate frontal overlap crash test and side protection tests, but the newer small overlap frontal test includes incomplete results with some Marginal and Poor findings.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and Limited trims add a surround-view camera system, while only the Limited gets front and rear parking proximity sensors. The mixed crash-test results and the aging platform are the main safety caveats to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2024 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices are up 9.01% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It remains a rugged, off-road-focused SUV with strong reliability and durability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,897, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $47,153 average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring and a limited-production anniversary edition.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $49,149, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $47,153 average.
• It brings a full redesign with more capability, power, comfort, and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the classic 4Runner formula now, the 2024 makes sense, especially if you value ruggedness over refinement. If price matters most, the 2023 is the smarter value play; if you can wait and want a more modern SUV, the 2025 is the better long-term direction.
