Summary
With 208 currently listed for sale near Columbia, SC and an average price of $43,330.00, 34.1% of 2024 Toyota 4Runners for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Toyota 4Runner 4.17 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 4.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner stands out as a rugged, off-road-focused SUV with a strong reputation for reliability and durability. It remains an accomplished off-road-capable vehicle, and its all-terrain abilities are a major part of its appeal. Buyers who want a traditional SUV with plenty of cargo space will also find that the 4Runner has practical strengths beyond trail use.
At the same time, the 2024 Toyota 4Runner shows its age in ways that matter to many shoppers. Its aging platform is in desperate need of a full redesign, and it trails newer rivals when it comes to technology, safety features, fuel efficiency, and power. The driving experience is also held back by poor handling, sluggish performance, and poor fuel economy. Even so, its reputation for toughness and its spacious, utility-first character continue to make it appealing to buyers who value capability over refinement.

The features are great. However, I have it a 4 because the color is off!!! If you look at the photo it is obviously Red. The description says it is Terra. I called the dealership and it is defininetly not red but a brown color, terra cotta.

Generally — the 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.17/5 user rating and a 4.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 6/10.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, power, and aesthetics, and they also call out the improved ride quality and useful features like heated seats and blind spot monitoring. The 4Runner’s rugged, utility-first character and off-road capability are recurring positives, which fits buyers who want a traditional SUV with plenty of cargo space. At the same time, the expert review points to poor handling, sluggish performance, and poor fuel economy as the main trade-offs.
If you want a durable, capability-first SUV and can live with older tech and a less refined road feel, the 4Runner still makes sense. 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner reliable?
Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a dependable, durable, and trouble-free ownership experience, with strong confidence in the vehicle’s long-term usefulness. The expert review reinforces that reputation by describing it as a vehicle with a strong reputation for reliability and durability.
The cost-effectiveness review also notes that Toyota’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic toughness and more about living with an aging platform and its associated compromises.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
Even with a strong clean-history rate, you should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection. Focus on overall condition, since this model’s age means wear, noise, and previous use can matter more than on newer rivals. You should also pay close attention to how the truck drives on pavement, because the 4Runner’s road manners are a major part of the ownership experience.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SR5 starts with a more basic setup, while higher trims add more rugged visual hardware and convenience features. The TRD Pro’s underbody skid plates and all-terrain tires give it a more serious off-road look, and the Limited adds a surround-view camera system plus front and rear parking proximity sensors.
- Powertrain: Every 2024 4Runner uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. Most trims are rear-wheel drive with four-wheel drive available, while the TRD Pro comes standard with four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case. The five-speed automatic is a key limitation, and the truck is described as slow on pavement.
- Safety package: Toyota’s driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and Limited also add a surround-view camera system, but only the Limited gets front and rear parking proximity sensors.
- Infotainment: The system uses an eight-inch touchscreen and includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It lacks some off-road-specific apps and gauges found in some rivals, and the screen size is a drawback for ease of use.
- Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined. The expert review also describes it as thirsty, which is worth factoring into your ownership budget.
Which 2024 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 2 trim levels: SR5, TRD Pro.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SR5 is the starting point, but it lacks the more serious off-road hardware and premium touches found higher up the range.
- Premium/top trim: The TRD Pro adds standard four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system.
The TRD Pro and Limited safety note is worth keeping in mind: both get a surround-view camera system, but only the Limited adds front and rear parking proximity sensors.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,780 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.47% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 92.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,835.84, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?
The current average of $46,667 sits slightly above last year's $45,544.
That upward move suggests the market still places value on this model’s reputation and utility. For a future seller, that can be a helpful sign that demand remains steady even as the vehicle ages. The 4Runner’s rugged image and loyal buyer base should continue to support interest, especially for well-kept examples with clean history and desirable equipment.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner safe?
The 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings for overall and frontal crash protection from NHTSA, five-star ratings in side impacts, and three-star ratings in rollover evaluations. IIHS gave it a Good rating for the original moderate frontal overlap crash test and side protection tests, but the newer small overlap frontal test includes Marginal and Poor results.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota’s standard driver-assistance suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and Limited trims also add a surround-view camera system, while only the Limited gets front and rear parking proximity sensors.
The mixed crash-test results are the main caveat here, especially the incomplete small-overlap performance.
Should I buy a 2024 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.47% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2024 keeps the 4Runner’s rugged, off-road-focused formula while remaining practical for cargo and trail use.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $44,460, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $46,667 average.
- It keeps the 4Runner’s classic SUV feel while adding updated equipment and a special edition.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $51,755, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $46,667 average.
- It brings a redesign with more capability, power, comfort, and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the familiar 4Runner formula and can find a clean, fairly priced 2024, it remains a sensible buy for capability-first shoppers. If price matters most, the 2023 can save you money while preserving much of the same character. If you want the biggest step forward in refinement and technology, the 2025 is the stronger long-term target.
