Is the 2024 Nissan LEAF a good car?

The 2024 Nissan LEAF sits in the second generation of Nissan’s pioneering electric hatchback, and its appeal is rooted in how much usable EV hardware it offers without losing sight of value. In this generation, Nissan gave the LEAF a larger battery that could deliver up to 150 miles of range and a more powerful drivetrain rated at 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. It also came with a 6.6-kW onboard charger, and Nissan said that on a Level 2 charger the battery pack could charge in about eight hours. The e-Pedal system is another defining feature, letting drivers lean heavily on regenerative braking for a one-pedal driving style.

The 2024 Nissan LEAF also benefits from the second generation’s sharper bodywork and its broad safety and convenience equipment. Nissan Safety Shield 360 became standard for 2020, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard as well. The model’s available technology helped it stand out too, including NissanConnect-based vehicle-to-home capability that could store surplus power during the day and help power a home in the evening. That said, the LEAF’s strengths are balanced by some limitations: the source describes it as having pedestrian performance, and it also notes that older Leaf models had limited range and old charging tech.

With 44.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a value-oriented example if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Nissan LEAF reliable?

The 2024 Nissan LEAF’s appeal is tied to its practical, value-focused EV setup, with standard safety and convenience equipment and a straightforward charging routine for home-based ownership. Its second-generation hardware gives you a familiar, proven formula rather than a cutting-edge one, which can be reassuring if you want an uncomplicated used EV.

For long-term ownership, the main risk is that aging EV hardware and the model’s older charging approach can matter more as mileage and time add up, so condition and battery health should stay high on your checklist.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Nissan LEAF?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the car’s charging equipment, battery behavior, and interior electronics all work as expected. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on battery condition, charging performance, and any signs of uneven wear or prior damage.

If you find a listing below $16,727, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Nissan LEAF's resale value?

The current average of $18,813 sits slightly above last year's $18,105.

That upward move suggests the LEAF is holding value better than it was a year ago, which can help if you plan to sell after a relatively short ownership period. The current pricing also points to steady demand for affordable used EVs, especially ones with a strong value story and broad equipment. If you keep the car in clean condition and maintain battery health, you should be in a better position when it’s time to list it.

Should I buy a 2024 Nissan LEAF or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 44.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.91% year-over-year.

The bottom line: The 2024 LEAF makes the most sense if you want a value-focused used EV with strong inventory depth and a healthy share of clean examples. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing for a lower entry point, but the 2024 gives you a solid balance of availability, condition, and market support.
