The Nissan Frontier is one of the old guard in a growing class of small pickup trucks, with competitors such as the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado cousins, the Ford Maverick, and the Honda Ridgeline.

What’s New for the 2024 Nissan Frontier

The 2024 Nissan Frontier carries over mostly unchanged in S, SV, Pro-X, and Pro-4X trims, along with a new Crew Cab SL trim in the middle of the range to hit that sweet spot in term of value. The Frontier also gets a new Hardbody Edition at the top end of the lineup, which draws attention to this generation of Frontier’s nostalgia-inspired styling.

Design

Nissan offers the Frontier in King Cab and Crew Cab configurations. King Cab is standard on base trims, while the larger Crew Cab style, with four full-sized doors, is the foundation for Pro-X and Pro 4X models. Depending on body style and trim, the Frontier comes with a 5- or 6-foot bed. Exterior styling is simple across the lineup, though Pro-X and Pro-4X models get off-road accents, and the new Hardbody Edition borrows cues from ‘80s-era Nissan trucks.

Powertrain

The 2024 Nissan Frontier comes standard with a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 310 hp and 281 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive (RWD) is standard, and a four-wheel drive (4WD) system is available. The Frontier can tow a maximum of 6,640 pounds. The 2024 Frontier is EPA-rated for up to 20 mpg combined with RWD and 19 combined with 4WD. Pro-4X models get off-road upgrades such as Bilstein shocks and underbody skid plates.

Interior

Both Frontier cab styles offer two rows of seating, though the Crew Cab is much more spacious and comfortable than the King Cab. Standard features include cloth upholstery, manually-adjustable front seats, and a basic four-speaker audio system. Options include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable seats, and upholstery upgrades.

Technology

The Frontier's infotainment system carries over unchanged for 2024. The base S and SV trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, and the Pro-X and Pro-4X models get a 9-inch touchscreen. The Pro-X and Pro-4X also get standard wireless Apple CarPlay, while wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the rest of the lineup. Options include wireless charging, 120-volt power outlets in the rear center console and bed, and a 10-speaker Fender stereo.

Safety

Nissan equips every Frontier with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward-collision warning, driver-attention monitoring, rear-door alert, and trailer sway control. Options include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, intelligent cruise control, and traffic-sign recognition. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2024 Nissan Frontier a four-star overall safety rating, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducted only some crash tests on the 2023 model, with mixed results.

Pricing

As of this writing, Nissan lists the 2024 Frontier with a starting MSRP of $29,770 for the base King Cab S with RWD. That’s an increase of just $200 over 2023 pricing. In Crew Cab configuration, the base S trim starts at $31,070. Lots of configuration options make for a wide variety of price points through the Frontier lineup, wrapping up with the new Hardbody Edition with a starting price of $43,940.
