The SUV is front-wheel-drive (FWD) by default, but it’s available with all-wheel drive (AWD). A six-speed automatic transmission is standard instead of the continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) many automakers opt for. That gives the Sportage Hybrid a more engaging driving feel and more responsive acceleration. The Sportage Hybrid offers a mostly smooth ride quality and solid handling, but it’s not going to raise any pulses with its performance. Braking feel is linear and confident, side-stepping some of the weird pedal dynamics some hybrids bring. The SUV’s compact size makes it easy to maneuver in tight urban areas, and it’s easy to park in most situations. ## Interior The Sportage Hybrid comes standard with cloth upholstery, but more expensive configurations add synthetic leather. Manual seat adjustments in the base model graduate to power-adjustability in higher trims, which also add heating and ventilation for the front seats. Cargo space is generous, with 39.5 cubic feet behind the second row and 73.7 cubic feet with the rear seat folded flat. ## Technology Kia equips an 8-inch touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster as standard. The base display brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control, and more. The upgraded tech system includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. While the extra screen real estate is nice, it comes at the expense of wireless smartphone mirroring. ## Safety The Sportage Hybrid is nicely equipped with safety gear, including parking sensors, automatic high beams, forward collision alerts, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, driver-attention monitoring, and lane-departure warning. Available tech includes an intersection turning assistance system, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a blind spot camera system, remote parking assist, and a highway driving assistance system. ## Pricing As of this writing, the base 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid starts at $29,965 after a $1,375 destination fee. The middle EX trim starts at $33,665, and the top SX Prestige at $38,865. A few added-cost options are available, including a $350 auto-dimming rearview mirror and $150 cargo cover.
