How much does the 2024 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 7.78% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,415 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2024 Kia Sorento a good car?

The 2024 Kia Sorento earns an 8.7/10 from our experts.

The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

It fits you well if you want a value-minded midsize SUV that is big enough for a standard third row but still smaller and cheaper than most three-row midsize SUVs. The 2024 refresh also brings a more upscale look, easier-to-use tech, and stronger safety equipment, which helps the Sorento feel more polished than its size and price might suggest.

Trade-offs remain: the base engine is underwhelming, and the third row is cramped. Top trims can also get pricey, so the best fit is usually a buyer who wants family-friendly packaging without moving up to a larger SUV.

38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2024 Kia Sorento reliable?

The 2024 Kia Sorento is presented as a solidly assembled SUV with a value-focused mission, and the 2024 update adds more modern tech and safety systems without changing its basic formula. Its refreshed cabin and updated software should help it feel current, while the standard safety equipment adds confidence for everyday use.

The gas-powered version also benefits from a more future-proof infotainment setup and a broad set of driver-assistance features, which supports long-term usability. The turbocharged powertrain is the stronger choice if you want a more satisfying drive, while the base engine is less convincing for heavier family use.

If you plan to keep one for the long haul, the main ownership risk is choosing too little power or paying too much for a top trim you may not fully use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Kia Sorento?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, how the tech and safety systems operate, and whether the cabin and third row match your needs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, S, EX, SX, SX-Prestige, X-Line, and X-Pro give you a wide spread of equipment and appearance changes, with the base models missing some of the nicer cabin touches and tech found higher up. The X-Line and X-Pro add a more rugged look, while the SX-Prestige brings the most upscale feel.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and is described as overmatched by the Sorento’s weight, while EX and higher models use a turbocharged 2.5-liter with 281 horsepower and much stronger passing power. The turbo setup is the better fit if you want the Sorento to feel lively.
• Safety package: Kia’s Drivewise suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, intersection assistance, lane-following and lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and safe exit warnings. Navigation-based adaptive cruise control and Highway Driving Assist are available, and Highway Driving Assist 2 with automated lane changes is on the SX-Prestige.
• Infotainment: All trims use a 12.3-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system can receive over-the-air updates. SX and SX-Prestige models add a second 12.3-inch digital display.
• Fuel efficiency: The gas-powered Sorento’s turbo models return 23 mpg combined, while non-turbo versions return 25 or 26 mpg combined.

Which 2024 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2024 Kia Sorento is offered in 7 trim levels: LX, S, EX, SX, SX-Prestige, X-Line, and X-Pro.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it’s also the least compelling if you want the Sorento to feel fully sorted. It gives you the basics at the lowest price, though the base engine is the weakest part of the lineup.
• S: This is the first trim where the Sorento starts to make more sense for many shoppers, especially if you want a lower-priced path with more flexibility. It’s the better value than the LX if you want to stay near the bottom of the range.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most buyers because it unlocks the stronger turbocharged engine and a more satisfying driving experience. If you want the Sorento to feel properly powered without jumping too far upmarket, this is the sweet spot.
• SX: This trim adds more upscale equipment and pairs well with the X-Line setup if you want extra capability and a more rugged look. It’s a strong choice if you want a nicer cabin and more features without going all the way to the top.
• SX-Prestige: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the nicest interior touches and the most advanced available tech. It makes sense if you want the Sorento to feel as premium as possible.
• X-Line: This is the better pick if you want the added ground clearance, all-wheel drive, and more outdoorsy styling. It suits you if you value capability and appearance together.
• X-Pro: This is the most capability-focused version, with all-terrain tires, improved towing, and the strongest off-road-leaning setup in the lineup. Choose it if you want the Sorento’s added ruggedness to be more than just cosmetic.

The safety package is especially strong, but some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and still find a decent deal.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,415 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.78% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,700, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $28,831 sits slightly below last year's $31,263.

That softer pricing suggests the Sorento is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. If you’re planning to sell later, you should expect the market to reward well-kept examples, but not necessarily at the same level they commanded before the recent price drop.

The good news is that the Sorento’s value-oriented positioning and refreshed 2024 updates should help it remain appealing to used shoppers. The downside is that a lower current average can also cap how much upside you’ll see if you buy at the wrong trim or pay too much today.

Is the 2024 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2024 Kia Sorento has not yet been fully evaluated by IIHS or NHTSA, but it has earned “Good” ratings in IIHS’ small overlap, original moderate overlap front, and original side tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Kia’s Drivewise suite is a major strength here, and standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go, forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, intersection assistance, lane-following and lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and safe exit warnings. Higher trims add navigation-based adaptive cruise control, Highway Driving Assist, and Highway Driving Assist 2 with automated lane changes.

One caveat is that IIHS gave the LATCH system only an “Acceptable” rating because the lower anchors are too deep in the seat. Even so, the Sorento’s safety package is broad and generally performs very well.

Should I buy a 2024 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.78% compared with last year.
• The 2024 refresh brings a more upscale look, easier-to-use tech, and stronger safety equipment.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $31,580, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $28,831 average.
• It carries over without significant changes after the 2024 refresh.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2024 is the smarter buy because it brings the refresh and a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year with essentially the same formula, the 2025 is the secondary path.

How does the 2024 Kia Sorento compare to the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe?

2024 Kia Sorento:

• Pros: Practical and family-friendly, Standard advanced safety features, Stylish design.
• Cons: Larger Telluride doesn’t cost much more, Underwhelming base engine, Cramped third row.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe:

• Pros: Stylish design, Multiple powertrain options, Impressive technology.
• Cons: Cramped third row, Pedestrian performance, Expensive in top trims.

Our experts score the 2024 Kia Sorento 8.7/10 and the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe 8.2/10. The Santa Fe counters with more power and more tech appeal, but it also costs more and gets expensive in top trims.
