Jeep electrified the Wrangler a few years back, giving it a useful plug-in hybrid powertrain with a legitimate all-electric range. The Grand Cherokee got the same treatment for the 2022 model year, and it carries over for 2024. The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe offers an upscale interior with plush finishes, a powerful infotainment system, and real off-road capability.

What’s New for the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

The Grand Cherokee 4xe is a fairly new entrant to the Jeep catalog, having debuted for the 2023 model year. There are no notable changes for 2024.

Design

Like the Jeep Wrangler 4xe, the Grand Cherokee 4xe gives little outward indication that it's any different than the standard model. It gets blue tow hooks and 4xe badging, but the SUV retains its otherwise clean styling and boxier design from the most recent generational update. Jeep offers several variants of the 4xe, each with unique exterior trim and wheel designs. Lower trims get black or body-colored accents, while more luxurious variants come with chrome and flashier exterior bodywork.

Powertrain

The 2024 Grand Cherokee 4xe comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that combine for 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The motors draw electricity from a 17.3-kWh battery pack that also delivers an all-electric range of 26 miles.

Power reaches all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. While some may balk at a hybrid off-roader, the electric motors’ torque helps the 4xe dig itself out of trouble with ease, and it makes the SUV feel legitimately quick. The best part is that the quickness isn’t an illusion: The Grand Cherokee 4xe is the quickest in the line, at a little over five seconds from zero to 60 mph.

Interior

Jeep gave the Grand Cherokee 4xe the same flagship treatment the regular model receives, with upscale materials, eye-catching design, and plenty of space throughout. Synthetic leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and power-adjustable front seats come standard. More expensive configurations get genuine leather and suede, Nappa or Palermo leather, ventilated front and second-row seats, and more.

Technology

Jeep’s excellent Uconnect infotainment interface runs flawlessly on the standard 10.1-inch screen, and it’s accompanied by a useful 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster. The system brings standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa capability, a Wi-Fi hotspot, navigation, nine speakers, and Bluetooth. Available tech includes a McIntosh audio system, rear touchscreens, and a front passenger display.

Safety

The Grand Cherokee 4xe comes with a load of advanced driver-assistance tech. The list includes rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise, automatic high beams, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and more. It earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for 2024, though it recorded spotty results in some areas of crash testing.

Pricing

As of this writing, the Grand Cherokee 4xe starts at $62,285 after a $1,795 destination charge. The SUV is eligible for up to a $3,750 federal tax credit, and Jeep often offers incentives that bring the price down further.
