CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 6,313 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,845, 34.4% of 2024 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Hyundai Elantra 3 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
85.5% of 2024 Elantra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a compact sedan that has moved well beyond the bargain-basement image Hyundai once had in this segment. According to the test-drive summary, the current seventh-generation model debuted in 2020 and helped the Elantra compete more directly with other compact sedans on substance, especially in how it drives and feels. For 2024, a mild refresh adds more style and standard equipment, and the car’s appeal is reinforced by its sporty-looking design and wider range of trim levels.
It is also notable for offering multiple powertrain options and even a manual transmission, which is uncommon enough to be a real differentiator for buyers who want more involvement. At the same time, the Elantra is not without compromises: the design may be polarizing, the base engine is described as underwhelming, and the interior materials can feel cheap. Even so, the overall impression is of a well-mannered sedan that balances comfort and economy with a genuinely entertaining driving character.

The car was a great value for the money I spent. It had plenty of features, and ultimately great MPG and price. I loved that it still has manufactuer warranty and is a certified-pre owned. I did wish it supported Hyundai's digital key, but the BlueLink is another phenomenal feature, other than having to pay every year. For other cars in this class such as the Civic, Corolla, Forte, K4, Impreza etc. It is reasonably priced, only competitive with the K4. If I wanted all of these features in one of those other vehicles especiallt the Civic I would be paying significantly more.

I live the interior and the way it drives. It feels very much my style and I can see myself driving it every day.

I was going to buy a new one except for a design I cannot live with. The passenger side grab bar is unsightly. If something falls on the floor, you wont be able to grab it at a stop light. It is located between the gear shift and the passenger side. Looks like a hospital bed rail. Pass. Drives great. Ive bought 4 Hyundais so I like them but I would rather go for an older model without the bar. Thats what I am looking for now.

It also stands out for offering multiple powertrain options and even a manual transmission, which is unusual in this class and gives you more ways to match the car to your priorities.
The trade-offs are real: the design can be polarizing, the base engine is underwhelming, and the interior materials can feel cheap. If you want a compact sedan that balances comfort and economy with a more entertaining personality, the Elantra makes a strong case; if you value a more conventional cabin or a stronger base drivetrain, you may want to shop carefully.
35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities if you compare carefully.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
The 2024 Elantra is presented as a well-mannered sedan that balances comfort and economy with a genuinely entertaining driving character. The expert summary also says it feels properly sorted and competes on substance, especially in how it drives and feels.
The performance notes describe the mainstream 2.0-liter setup as adequate around town, while the N Line and Elantra N add much more verve and stronger responses. That broader lineup can help you choose a version that better fits your needs, but it also means the ownership experience will vary a lot by trim and powertrain.
Three years of maintenance and a five-year/60,000-mile warranty come on every Elantra, which is a useful ownership perk if you’re buying used and want some cushion on routine upkeep. For long-term ownership, the main risk is choosing a version whose performance or refinement doesn’t match your expectations, especially if you prioritize smoothness over character.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a higher-mileage commuter role. Focus on overall condition, because the Elantra’s appeal depends heavily on trim content, cabin presentation, and how well the car has been maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE, SEL, and Limited trims differ noticeably in appearance and equipment, and the base SE misses some of the more upscale touches found higher up. The interior is described as plastic-heavy, so pay close attention to cabin wear and whether the trim level you’re considering feels worth the money.
- Powertrain: The common 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a CVT is adequate in town but weak and loud on the highway. The N Line’s 1.6-liter turbo-four and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic add much more urgency, while the Elantra N brings the most power and the most aggressive character.
- Safety package: The standard suite includes forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams. SEL trims with the Convenience Package and Limited trims add cyclist detection, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control, while the Limited adds rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
- Infotainment: The SE uses an 8-inch touchscreen, while SEL-and-above trims get a 10.25-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported, and blind-spot cameras are limited to the Limited trim.
- Fuel efficiency: The base SE is rated at 32/41/36 mpg, while the SEL and Limited return 31/40/34 mpg. The N Line is rated at 28/35/31 mpg, and the Elantra N is lower still at 21/29/24 mpg with the manual and 20/27/23 mpg with the automatic.
Which 2024 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, N Line.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and can live with the simpler 8-inch touchscreen and the least upscale cabin presentation. It gives you the core Elantra experience, but it’s also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen and a more complete feature set without jumping all the way to the pricier upper trims. If you want the sweet spot between price and everyday usability, this is the one to focus on.
- Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and tech, including blind-spot cameras, the 360-degree camera system, parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist. It suits you best if you want the most polished non-sport version.
- N Line: This is the choice if you want the most engaging mainstream Elantra, with the turbocharged engine, quicker-shifting transmission, and a firmer, more responsive feel. It’s the right pick if driving enjoyment matters more to you than maximum efficiency.
The Limited is the only trim with blind-spot cameras and Highway Driving Assist, so if those features matter, you need to shop at the top of the lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, compare, and wait for the right listing.
- Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,308 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.94% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,471, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $19,835 sits slightly below last year's $20,865.
That price movement suggests the Elantra has softened enough to create a better buying window for you now than it did a year ago. For a future seller, that also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and how well the car is equipped.
Because the year-round range stays fairly tight, a well-kept example with desirable equipment should hold up better than a stripped or heavily worn one. If you buy carefully now, you’ll be in a better position to recover more of your money later.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2024 Elantra received a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with four-star ratings for the front passenger and five-star ratings for the driver and for front and rear passengers in the two side tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named it a Top Safety Pick, though not all of its standard crash tests were performed.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams. SEL trims with the Convenience Package and Limited trims add cyclist detection, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control, while the Limited adds rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
A key caveat is that the new moderate-overlap frontal crash test showed worse results than the 2021 Elantra, and rear passengers had a higher risk of injury despite the addition of two rear side airbags for 2024. There are also no frontal knee airbags.
Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.94% compared with last year.
- The 2024 refresh adds more style and standard equipment, while the lineup still offers multiple powertrain choices and a manual transmission.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,251, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $19,835 average.
- It offers a wide range of appeal in one compact sedan.
The bottom line: If you want the newer refresh and a broader current-market selection, the 2024 is the better target. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2023 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you much of the Elantra’s core appeal.
