How much does the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 7.98% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,524 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Generally — the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 4.2/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its capability, impressive features, and professional-grade feel, along with the value it offers. The overview also points to a heavy-duty truck that blends serious capability with an upscale presentation, especially in Denali Ultimate form.

The main trade-offs are fuel thirst and a barge-like feel when parking, and the expert review also notes that the near-twin Chevrolet Silverado HD is cheaper. That makes this a strong fit if you want a premium-feeling heavy-duty truck for towing and hauling, but less compelling if you mainly want basic utility at the lowest possible price.

Good and great deals account for 32.2% of listings, which is a decent sign that shoppers can still find competitive pricing.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels capable and dependable overall, with praise for its professional-grade character and value. At the same time, the review summary flags concerns about the gas engine’s reliability, especially carbon buildup issues over time.

The expert review also describes the Duramax diesel powertrain as refined, smooth, and strong under load, which supports confidence in day-to-day use and towing. If you’re shopping used, the main long-term ownership risk is that maintenance history and powertrain condition matter a lot, especially on higher-mileage trucks.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or heavy work. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin and bed, and whether the truck’s equipment and electronics operate as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Denali Ultimate sits at the top of the lineup and comes with nearly every available option, including a six-passenger Crew Cab, standard LED headlights and taillights, sequential turn signals, and the MultiPro Tailgate. Lesser trims will leave out some of those luxury and convenience touches, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want the upscale feel without paying top-dollar.
• Powertrain: The Denali Ultimate uses a 6.6-liter Duramax turbocharged diesel V8 with 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission and standard 4WD. It also adds a locking rear differential, two-speed transfer case, all-terrain tires, heavy-duty air filter, underbody skid plates, hill descent control, and a diesel exhaust brake.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera.
• Infotainment: The Denali Ultimate gets a 13.4-inch screen, a 15-inch multi-color head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless device charging, Google built-in, a 12-speaker Bose surround-sound system, and split-screen navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: During long highway stints, the Duramax diesel was observed to stretch as much as 21 miles from each gallon of diesel, while suburban and city driving could dip into the single digits.

It adds the strongest mix of premium cabin materials, advanced tech, and towing hardware, and it’s the best fit if you want a heavy-duty truck that feels closer to a luxury vehicle than a work truck.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,524 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $65,248, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $65,248 sits slightly below last year's $70,909.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has moved into a more buyer-friendly phase, which can help future resale if you buy at the right number. If you pay close to the low end of the range, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation exposure later.

Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand in the used market. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD safe?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-facing cargo bed camera. The extra-large power-operated side mirrors also improve visibility along the sides and rearward.

That gives you a strong safety baseline for a heavy-duty truck, especially if you plan to tow or maneuver in tight spaces. The main caveat is that this is still a large truck, so visibility and parking demands remain part of the ownership experience.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.98% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 model year adds the Denali Ultimate as a newly available top trim, giving you a more luxurious and fully equipped heavy-duty option.

The bottom line: If you want the most upscale version of the Sierra 2500HD and you value strong towing capability, the 2024 is the right year to target. If your priority is lower purchase price, a nearby model year or a less expensive trim may make more sense, especially if you don’t need the full luxury and tech loadout.
