There are 9,652 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Yes — with a 4.64/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating, you’re looking at a truck that lands well with both owners and reviewers. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners repeatedly praise the powerful engine choices, comfortable and spacious interior, and well-equipped features. The design and luxury touches also come through as recurring positives, especially if you want a truck that feels more upscale than basic work-focused rivals.

The main trade-offs are emissions-control concerns and some infotainment reliability complaints, along with the need for a data plan for some connected features. The Sierra 1500’s broad appeal makes the most sense if you want one truck that can serve as a work vehicle, an off-roader, or a long-distance cruiser.

With 39.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market activity to find a competitive example.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

The diesel powertrain stands out for smooth, linear delivery and strong towing-friendly torque, while the 10-speed automatic is described as smooth and quick-shifting. GMC also includes a three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, which helps support confidence in long-term ownership.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is that some owners have reported infotainment and emissions-related frustrations, so a careful test drive and feature check matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one with advanced tech and driver-assistance features. Focus on how the cabin electronics, connected services, and powertrain behave in real-world use, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day ownership satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Pro is aimed at commercial fleets and is much more basic than the higher trims, while Denali and Denali Ultimate lean into luxury and AT4/AT4X focus on off-road capability. The Pro’s black grille and painted 17-inch wheels make it look and feel more stripped down than the upscale trims.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 5.3-liter V8, 6.2-liter V8, or 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel. The diesel is the standout for torque and fuel economy, while the V8s add stronger output and the 2.7-liter is the entry-level choice.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and GM’s Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional, and Super Cruise is available on Denali and Denali Ultimate.
• Infotainment: Base Pro models use a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SLE and higher trims get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Google Built-In.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax diesel is EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined with RWD and 24 mpg combined with 4WD. The TurboMax four-cylinder can reach 20 mpg combined in some configurations, while the V8s return a few mpg less.

Which 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the fleet-focused starting point, so it makes sense only if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the most basic equipment. It gets the 7-inch touchscreen with wired smartphone connectivity, but it’s clearly the least upscale choice.
• SLE: This is the first trim that brings the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 13.4-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone integration, making it the best-value pick for most shoppers.
• Elevation: Choose this if you want a more polished look than the Pro or SLE without jumping all the way to the luxury trims. It sits in the middle of the lineup and keeps the tech upgrades that make daily use easier.
• SLT: This is the better choice if you want a more premium-feeling truck without going full Denali. It’s the trim where comfort and convenience start to matter more than just value.
• AT4: Pick this if you want the off-road setup, including the 2-inch lift, Rancho monotube shocks, locking rear differential, and skid plates. It also gets the Duramax diesel as standard for 2024.
• AT4X: This is the more serious off-road version, adding a front locker and more sophisticated Multimatic DSSV dampers. It’s the right call if you want the most capable trail-focused Sierra 1500.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning trim, with the signature chrome grille and available 22-inch wheels. It’s also where Super Cruise becomes available, so it suits you if comfort and tech matter most.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the top luxury choice, with the richest comfort features and the most upscale presentation. It’s the trim to buy if you want the most fully equipped Sierra 1500 and don’t mind paying for it.

Super Cruise is available on Denali and Denali Ultimate, while the AT4 and AT4X are the trims that carry the off-road hardware.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a fire sale.

• Deal availability: 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,652 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.59% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $47,744, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $47,744 sits slightly below last year's $53,401.

That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone.

Higher-spec trucks with desirable features may hold attention better than basic examples, especially if they’re accident-free and well maintained. The diesel and luxury-oriented trims may also appeal to a narrower but more committed buyer pool.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2024 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab received a Good score in the driver-side small overlap front crash test, Good scores in the original moderate overlap front and side crash tests, and an Acceptable score in the updated side crash test from IIHS. It also earns five-star ratings for side-crash protection from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in rollover and frontal crash testing.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and GM’s Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional.

One important caveat is the Marginal passenger-side small overlap front result from IIHS testing, which is a reminder that bigger size does not guarantee uniformly strong crash performance.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 39.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.59% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 brings minimal changes, so you’re shopping a mature version of the current generation with broad trim and powertrain choice.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $44,702, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $47,744 average.
• It emphasizes luxury-leaning pickup appeal with a strong mix of cabin space, a lively diesel engine, and versatile features.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of current-year pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and a wide range of configurations, the 2024 is the cleaner choice. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2023 is the better value path and still delivers much of the Sierra 1500’s upscale, capability-first character.
