Why it stands out
The 2024 Ford Mustang stands out as the last remaining muscle car, and that alone gives it a special place in the market. It returns for a final tour as its primary rivals head to retirement, and this seventh-generation pony car is based on its predecessor but receives numerous upgrades that significantly improve its interior and technology. That combination of nostalgia and modernization helps it feel familiar while still moving forward.
What makes the 2024 Ford Mustang especially appealing is how well it balances performance and value. The expert test drive data points to a powerful engine, great handling, and excellent value for money, which makes it easy to see why it remains such a compelling choice for buyers who want fun without overspending. Owners also praise its speed, handling, engine sound, and updated technology, reinforcing the Mustang’s reputation as an engaging driver’s car.
It is not without compromises, though. The back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the car can be noisy, so it is best understood as a performance-focused coupe rather than a practical all-rounder. Even so, for shoppers who care more about character, driving enjoyment, and heritage than everyday versatility, the 2024 Ford Mustang has a strong and distinctive appeal.

One of the few cars yet available with a manual transmission. Gotta love the V8. Imho, UI for all the tech could be a bit more intuitive and easy to use but, some of this is my need to learn it. Sure wish they still provided a printed owners manual.

How much does the 2024 Ford Mustang cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,760 |
| Year-Round Low | $35,893 |
| Year-Round High | $39,930.94 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $39,934 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.45% |
Prices have softened 5.45% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,506 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
If you find a listing below $35,893, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2024 Ford Mustang earns a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its speed, handling, engine sound, and updated technology, and many also like the manual transmission for a more engaging drive. The expert review backs that up with strong performance and value, while also noting that the interior and tech have been significantly improved for this generation.
The trade-offs are real, though: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the car can be noisy. In practical terms, this works best if you want a performance-focused coupe rather than a do-everything daily driver.
Good and great deals account for 32.5% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to shoppers who want a fun, confidence-inspiring sports car. The review summary emphasizes strong performance, satisfying driving dynamics, and updated technology, while also highlighting the kind of ownership experience that keeps people coming back to the Mustang name.
The expert review also describes the Mustang as approachable and easy to drive, with performance that feels well sorted rather than demanding. On the ownership side, the base model’s pricing and the car’s broad appeal help support the case for a used buy that you can enjoy without feeling like you overreached.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the badge and more about how hard the car was driven and maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Ford Mustang?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a car with performance options or a manual transmission. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the car’s features and equipment match the trim you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base models use separate screens, while Premium models place the displays in a single enclosure. The cabin also gets a more modern dashboard layout and improved materials, so you should compare interior presentation carefully if you care about the upgraded look and feel.
- Powertrain: The EcoBoost 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, while the GT’s 5.0-liter V8 makes 480 hp and 415 lb-ft. The GT’s optional Active Exhaust raises output slightly to 486 hp and 418 lb-ft.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning are available options.
- Infotainment: Every model gets a 13.2-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, Amazon Alexa integration is included, and a Wi-Fi hotspot comes on all models.
- Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost is rated at 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The GT with the automatic is rated at 15 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined.
Which 2024 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2024 Ford Mustang is offered in 2 trim levels: EcoBoost and GT.
Here's the short version:
- EcoBoost: This is the value play if you want the Mustang experience at the lowest starting price. You still get strong performance, standard tech, and the core Mustang character, and it makes the most sense if you care more about affordability and everyday usability than V8 power.
- GT: This is the better choice if you want the classic muscle-car feel. The V8 brings much stronger performance, a more exciting soundtrack, and the kind of driving character that makes the Mustang feel special. It’s the trim to choose if performance matters most.
Standard safety features include frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,506 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.45% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 90.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $35,893, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $37,760 sits slightly below last year's $39,934.
That softer pricing trend can help you buy more carefully now, but it also suggests the market has already adjusted downward from a year ago. If you plan to resell later, the key will be buying at the right price and keeping the car in strong condition.
The Mustang’s broad appeal, strong performance reputation, and updated tech should help it stay desirable with shoppers who want a traditional muscle car. That said, resale will still depend heavily on trim, mileage, condition, and how well the car was maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Crash test results for the 2024 Ford Mustang are not yet available, but the previous generation on which this model is built received five-star ratings across the board in NHTSA evaluations, and the IIHS awarded it a Good rating in all tests except the driver-side small overlap test, where it scored Acceptable.
Standard safety features for all Mustangs include frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning are available as options.
Should I buy a 2024 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 32.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.45% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2024 model brings a major interior and technology upgrade while keeping the Mustang’s classic performance-first character.
The bottom line: If you want the newest Mustang with the most modern cabin and strong performance value, the 2024 is the right path. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest possible price, a nearby year may be worth a look, but you’ll want to weigh that savings against the 2024’s updated tech and improved interior.
