Why it stands out
The 2024 Ford Mustang stands out as the last remaining muscle car, and that alone gives it a special place in the market. It returns for a final tour as its primary rivals head to retirement, and this seventh-generation pony car is based on its predecessor but receives numerous upgrades that significantly improve its interior and technology. That combination of nostalgia and modernization helps it feel familiar while still moving forward.
What makes the 2024 Ford Mustang especially appealing is how well it balances performance and value. The expert test drive data points to a powerful engine, great handling, and excellent value for money, which makes it easy to see why it remains such a compelling choice for buyers who want fun without overspending. Owners also praise its speed, handling, engine sound, and updated technology, reinforcing the Mustang’s reputation as an engaging driver’s car.
It is not without compromises, though. The back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the car can be noisy, so it is best understood as a performance-focused coupe rather than a practical all-rounder. Even so, for shoppers who care more about character, driving enjoyment, and heritage than everyday versatility, the 2024 Ford Mustang has a strong and distinctive appeal.

One of the few cars yet available with a manual transmission. Gotta love the V8. Imho, UI for all the tech could be a bit more intuitive and easy to use but, some of this is my need to learn it. Sure wish they still provided a printed owners manual.

Is the 2024 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The expert rating is 7.17/10, and the model scores 8/10 across Performance and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the Mustang’s speed, handling, engine sound, and updated technology. They also like the engaging driving experience, with the manual transmission standing out for drivers who want a more involved feel.
The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat, limited cargo space, and a noisy cabin. That makes the Mustang a better fit if you want a fun, characterful coupe than if you need everyday practicality.
For shoppers who value performance and heritage over utility, the Mustang’s mix of nostalgia and modernization fits the use case well. With 29.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter most to enthusiasts: strong performance, satisfying driving dynamics, and updated tech that owners appreciate day to day. The review summary also highlights the engine sound and the manual transmission as part of the car’s lasting appeal.
The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of confidence by describing the Mustang as approachable and easy to drive, with performance that remains strong without feeling demanding. It also notes that the ride stays well-balanced between comfort and handling.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic satisfaction and more about choosing a well-kept example, since this is a performance car that may have been driven hard.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Ford Mustang?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-output or more heavily optioned car. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the car’s equipment matches how you plan to use it.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base models use separate screens, while Premium models place the displays in a single enclosure. The cabin also gets a more modern dashboard layout, and higher trims can add comfort features such as heated and ventilated seats.
- Powertrain: The EcoBoost 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, while the GT’s 5.0-liter V8 makes 480 hp and 415 lb-ft, or 486 hp and 418 lb-ft with the optional Active Exhaust. The EcoBoost is the efficiency play, while the GT is the more compelling muscle-car choice.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning are available, so check whether a used example has those extras.
- Infotainment: Every 2024 Mustang gets a 13.2-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, Amazon Alexa integration is included, and a Wi-Fi hotspot comes on all models. A native navigation system and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system are optional.
- Fuel efficiency: The EcoBoost is rated at 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The GT automatic is rated at 15 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined, and the manual drops fuel economy by 1 mpg across the board.
Which 2024 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2024 Ford Mustang is offered in 2 trim levels: EcoBoost and GT.
Here's the short version:
- EcoBoost: This is the value play if you want the Mustang experience at the lowest entry price. It brings the 315-horsepower turbo four, standard 10-speed automatic, and the full modern tech setup, while still delivering strong performance for everyday driving. If you want the best balance of price and fun, this is the trim to start with.
- GT: This is the trim to buy if you want the classic Mustang character to feel fully realized. The 5.0-liter V8, standard six-speed manual, and stronger performance make it the enthusiast’s choice, and it’s the better fit if you care most about sound, acceleration, and driver engagement.
Standard safety equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning remain optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare condition carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,640 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.23% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $35,893.73, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $37,878 sits slightly below last year's $39,970.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well you preserve the car’s condition and mileage. A clean, well-optioned Mustang should remain easier to move than a rough example because shoppers in this segment tend to respond to strong performance and enthusiast appeal.
The market still supports the Mustang’s long-term desirability because it remains a distinctive performance coupe with broad buyer interest. If you keep it clean and avoid neglect, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang safe?
The previous generation on which this model is based received Good ratings from the IIHS in all tests except the driver-side small overlap test, where it scored Acceptable. It also earned five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning are available, so you should verify whether a used example has those features if they matter to you.
The main caveat is that crash testing for this model year is not yet available, so you’re relying partly on the prior generation’s results and the current equipment list.
Should I buy a 2024 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.23% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2024 model brings a final-tour appeal, with major interior and technology upgrades that make it feel more modern than the outgoing generation.
The bottom line: If you want the Mustang with the freshest cabin, updated tech, and strong market pricing, the 2024 is the one to target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2024’s combination of owner satisfaction, softened pricing, and broad inventory makes it the cleaner buy for most shoppers.
