Is the 2024 BMW 7 Series a good car?

With a 3.5/5 user rating and an expert rating of 6.7/10, the 2024 BMW 7 Series looks appealing if you want a flagship sedan that mixes luxury, performance, and efficiency.

BMW’s own positioning emphasizes a spacious, luxurious cabin and powertrain choices that are potent and fuel-efficient, and the expert review highlights standout features such as a rear-seat theatre and cashmere upholstery. The trade-offs are just as clear: the infotainment is overly complex, the design is polarizing, and the plug-in hybrid’s driving feel is uneven. That makes it a stronger fit if you value comfort, speed, and high-end features more than simplicity.

The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Safety.

There are 33.9% good or great deals in the market, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 BMW 7 Series reliable?

The 2024 BMW 7 Series is presented as a robust, well-engineered flagship with smooth, reliable active safety systems and strong crash-structure fundamentals.

BMW’s safety suite works unobtrusively, and the expert review says the warning systems are good at detecting pedestrians and hazards. The plug-in hybrid’s performance and efficiency are strong, but its around-town brake and throttle behavior is less polished, which matters if you plan to use it in stop-and-go driving. BMW also offers a maintenance perk on the 750e’s electric side through its charging and ownership setup, but the broader ownership picture still depends on how much complexity you’re willing to live with.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s advanced systems and complicated controls can become expensive and frustrating to own if anything goes wrong.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW 7 Series?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car with advanced electronics and optional driver-assistance equipment. Focus on how the infotainment, rear-seat tech, and powertrain behave in real-world use, since the 7 Series leans heavily on complex systems. If you’re considering the plug-in hybrid, pay extra attention to charging behavior and low-speed drivability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin can be configured with a wide range of materials and features, and the base setup misses some of the more dramatic luxury touches. Higher trims add more distinctive appearance and interior options, while the top V8 model is the one that unlocks the most exclusive luxury choices.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a turbocharged inline-six, a twin-turbo V8, and a plug-in hybrid setup. The plug-in hybrid brings strong power and efficiency, but its low-speed brake and throttle behavior can feel inconsistent.
• Safety package: BMW includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Surround view monitoring, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automated parking assist, and the partially automated highway assistant cost extra.
• Infotainment: The display pairs a 12.3-inch driver screen with a 14.9-inch infotainment screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, but the system is heavily touchscreen-based and remains complicated to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid is rated at 65 MPGe electric and 25 mpg gas combined, while the gas models return 28 mpg or 27 mpg with AWD for the six-cylinder and 20 mpg combined for the V8.

Which 2024 BMW 7 Series trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW 7 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 740i, 740i xDrive, 750e xDrive, 760i xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• 740i: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 7 Series experience with the turbocharged inline-six, rear-wheel drive, and the most accessible price. It makes sense if you want the flagship cabin and don’t need all-wheel drive or the extra cost of the electrified model.
• 740i xDrive: This is the best-value trim. It adds all-wheel drive and is the sweet spot if you want the strongest balance of price, traction, and everyday usability without stepping into the more expensive plug-in hybrid.
• 750e xDrive: This is the choice if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain, stronger output, and the ability to drive on electric power for short trips. It suits you best if you’ll actually plug it in and value efficiency as much as performance.
• 760i xDrive: This is the pick for maximum performance and the most exclusive luxury options. It’s the one to choose if you want the V8 and the richest feature set, and you’re willing to pay for it.

BMW’s best driver-assistance systems are bundled into extra-cost packages, so factor those into your trim decision.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW 7 Series?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 628 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.08% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $67,186, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 BMW 7 Series's resale value?

The current average of $67,192 sits slightly below last year's $80,069.

That drop suggests the market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help you as a used buyer. If you plan to resell later, the flip side is that the 7 Series still sits in a segment where depreciation can remain steep, especially once newer tech and powertrain updates arrive.

For a future seller, the best protection is buying well and choosing a trim with broad appeal. The more complicated or expensive the configuration, the harder it may be to recover value later.

Is the 2024 BMW 7 Series safe?

The 2024 BMW 7 Series has not yet been crash-tested by either IIHS or NHTSA, but BMW says its crash structures are robust.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips the 7 Series with forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, adaptive headlamps, parking sensors, safe exit warning, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. The Premium package adds surround view monitoring, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and automated parking assist, while the Driving Assistance Professional Package adds partially automated active driving assistant and highway assistant with limited hands-free capability. Those advanced systems cost extra, so you’ll want to verify whether a used example has them.

Should I buy a 2024 BMW 7 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.08% compared with last year.
• BMW added the plug-in hybrid 750e and lightly updated the infotainment system.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $60,797, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $67,192 average.
• It blends comfort, luxury, and performance while delivering a great ride and strong handling.

The bottom line: If you want the newer powertrain mix and updated infotainment, the 2024 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up the latest changes, the 2023 is the smarter value play.
