How much does the 2024 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.20% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,253 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is positioned as a midsize luxury sedan that leans heavily on design, technology, and comfort. It works well if you want a refined daily driver with a great ride, a comfortable character, and a quiet cabin.

The tradeoff is that it gives up some of the classic BMW feel, and it also brings poor fuel economy. Cargo space is another limitation, especially with the spare tire in place.

33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is described as a polished, upscale midsize sedan with a strong reputation for safety and a broad range of available technology. Its powertrain is quiet and smooth, and the eight-speed automatic transmission shifts almost imperceptibly, which supports a refined ownership experience.

BMW also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s comfort-first setup and complex technology can make condition and maintenance history especially important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s technology-heavy cabin and comfort-oriented setup make it important to confirm that everything works as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 530i is the entry point, and the M Sport treatment adds more visual attitude along with a more upscale cabin presentation. Base-trim shoppers should pay attention to feature gaps if they want the more expressive look and feel described in the test car.
• Powertrain: The 530i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, plus a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that aids efficiency. It is quiet, smooth, and capable in everyday driving.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. Driving Assistant Professional adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen under the curved display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with connected services, a personal eSIM 5G connection, SiriusXM 360L satellite radio, navigation, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: BMW estimates 30 mpg in combined driving, and the test car returned 24.7 mpg on the evaluation loop and 26.7 mpg over the week.

Which 2024 BMW 5 Series trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 530i, 540i.

Here's the short version:

• 530i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 5 Series experience without stretching for more power. It delivers the quiet, comfortable, and refined character that defines this model year, along with the standard tech and safety equipment.
• 540i: Choose this if you want more performance and are willing to pay for it. It sits above the 530i and is the better fit if you want a stronger engine and a more premium-feeling step up.

BMW’s standard safety package is Active Driving Assistant, and the more advanced Driving Assistant Professional Package is optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,253 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.20% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $43,147, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $43,147 sits slightly below last year's $46,495.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Because the model is still drawing solid demand from shoppers looking for a refined luxury sedan, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series safe?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series earns Top Safety Pick recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips the 530i with Active Driving Assistant, a collection of safety features including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard, adding automatic collision notification and an SOS emergency request button.

For more advanced driver assistance, you can add the Driving Assistant Professional Package. It brings adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist. The car does not earn the higher Top Safety Pick+ rating because it hasn’t been assessed in a new moderate-overlap frontal-impact evaluation.

Should I buy a 2024 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2024 model emphasizes design, technology, and comfort, with a quiet cabin and a refined ride.

The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign and a calmer, more comfort-focused 5 Series, the 2024 is the better path. If you’re mainly chasing lower prices, a nearby older year may be worth a look, but you’ll be trading away the fresh redesign and some of the latest tech.
