How much does the 2024 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 6.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,260 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal even if it is not the most engaging BMW to drive. The redesigned model is positioned as a midsize luxury sedan that emphasizes design, technology, and comfort, and it stands out for its great ride quality, comfortable character, and quiet cabin.

The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The trade-offs are clear: it gives up some of the driving joy many buyers expect from a BMW, and it also brings poor fuel economy. It works best if you want a refined luxury sedan that feels calm and polished in daily use rather than one that prioritizes sharp driver engagement.

Only 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than especially loose.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The 2024 BMW 5 Series is described as quiet, comfortable, and capable, with a refined powertrain that feels smooth and effortless in everyday driving. Its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that aids efficiency, and the transmission shifts almost imperceptibly.

BMW also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s premium complexity and poor fuel economy can make ownership less satisfying if you are trying to keep running costs down.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Start with the vehicle history report, then prioritize a careful inspection of the cabin, electronics, and exterior condition. Because this model leans heavily on technology and comfort, you should make sure the infotainment, driver-assistance features, and interior surfaces all work as expected and show normal wear.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 530i is the entry point, and it comes across as the least powerful and most affordable version. It still feels upscale, but the base setup is where you are most likely to notice the biggest feature and performance gaps versus better-equipped versions.
• Powertrain: The 530i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, plus a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It is quiet and smooth, and BMW estimates 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard. The Driving Assistant Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assist, Distance Control, and Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen under BMW Curved Display, running BMW Operating System 8.5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with connected services, a personal eSIM 5G connection, SiriusXM 360L, navigation, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: BMW estimates 30 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 24.7 mpg on the evaluation loop and 26.7 mpg over the week.

Which 2024 BMW 5 Series trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 530i and 540i.

Here's the short version:

• 530i: This is the trim to start with if you want the most accessible entry into the redesigned 5 Series. It delivers the core luxury-sedan experience, the standard curved-display tech, and the smooth, refined powertrain character that defines the car. It is the best-value choice if you want the 5 Series formula without stretching for more power.
• 540i: Choose this if you want more performance headroom and are willing to pay for it. It sits above the 530i in the lineup and is the better fit if you care more about stronger acceleration than keeping the purchase price in check.

BMW’s Active Driving Assistant is standard, while the more advanced Driving Assistant Professional Package is optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,260 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $43,311, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $43,311 sits slightly below last year's $46,530.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you as a buyer now but may also mean future resale gains are more limited if prices keep easing. For a future seller, the upside is that the 5 Series still has a strong luxury-car profile, so well-kept examples should remain appealing to shoppers who want comfort, technology, and a premium badge.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series safe?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips the 530i with Active Driving Assistant, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard, adding automatic collision notification and an SOS emergency request button.

If you want more advanced driver assistance, the Driving Assistant Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assist, Distance Control, and Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change. The main caveat is that the car does not earn the higher Top Safety Pick+ rating because it has not been assessed in a new moderate-overlap frontal-impact evaluation.

Should I buy a 2024 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2024 model emphasizes design, technology, and comfort, while still delivering a quiet cabin and a supple ride.

The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign with strong comfort, modern tech, and a calmer luxury-sedan personality, the 2024 is the right path. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby older year may be worth considering, but you should expect a different mix of design, technology, and market pricing.
