How much does the 2024 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 6.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,251 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.0/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is positioned as a midsize luxury sedan that leans heavily on design, technology, and comfort. It works well if you want a refined, calm daily driver with a quiet cabin and a smooth ride, but it is less compelling if you expect the sharper, more engaging BMW character.

The main trade-offs are that it lacks much of the joy many buyers expect from a BMW and it brings poor fuel economy. Cargo space is also limited, especially with the spare tire in place.

Good and great deals percentage: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 BMW 5 Series comes across as a polished, upscale midsize sedan with a strong emphasis on comfort and capability. Its quiet cabin, supple ride, and composed powertrain support the idea that it should be easy to live with over time.

The turbocharged four-cylinder is quiet and smooth, and the eight-speed automatic shifts almost imperceptibly. BMW also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the bigger long-term risk is that the car’s premium complexity and comfort-first setup may not translate into the kind of low-stress ownership some shoppers expect if they plan to keep it for many years.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury sedan with a lot of technology. Focus on overall condition, how the cabin electronics operate, and whether the car has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 530i M Sport test car shows how the M Sport treatment adds a more expressive look, while the cabin pairs Smoke-color Veganza artificial leather, aluminum trim, and metal speaker grilles with a modern but sometimes glare-prone interior. The base setup still relies heavily on screen-based controls, so make sure you are comfortable with that layout before you buy.
• Powertrain: The 530i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, plus a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. BMW estimates 30 mpg in combined driving, and the car is described as quiet, smooth, and capable in everyday use.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard. Driving Assistant Professional adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist.
• Infotainment: The curved display combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen running BMW Operating System 8.5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with connected services, a personal eSIM 5G connection, SiriusXM 360L, navigation, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The 530i is estimated at 30 mpg combined, but the test car returned 24.7 mpg on the evaluation loop and averaged 26.7 mpg during the week.

Which 2024 BMW 5 Series trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 530i and 540i.

Here's the short version:

• 530i: This is the trim described in the test data, and it is the best-value starting point if you want the core 5 Series experience with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder, the curved display, wireless smartphone integration, and the standard safety suite. It delivers the comfort, quietness, and refinement that define this model year without pushing you into higher-priced territory.
• 540i: Choose this if you want more power and are willing to pay for it. It sits above the 530i in the lineup and is the better fit if stronger acceleration matters more to you than keeping the purchase price in check.

BMW’s standard safety package is Active Driving Assistant, and Driving Assistant Professional is the upgrade to look for if you want the more advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,251 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $43,598, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $43,598 sits slightly below last year's $46,755.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than assuming the model will hold its price simply because it is a BMW.

The 2024 5 Series still has appeal because it is a redesigned luxury sedan with strong comfort and technology credentials. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series safe?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips the 530i with Active Driving Assistant, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard, adding automatic collision notification and an SOS emergency request button.

For more advanced driver assistance, the Driving Assistant Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist. Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change is also available for hands-free use on approved limited-access highways.

The main caveat is that the car does not earn the higher Top Safety Pick+ rating because it has not been assessed in a new moderate-overlap frontal-impact evaluation.

Should I buy a 2024 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2024 model emphasizes design, technology, and comfort, with a quiet cabin and a smooth ride.

The bottom line: If you want the newest shape, the most modern cabin, and a comfort-first luxury sedan, the 2024 is the better path. If your priority is simply getting into a 5 Series for less money, a nearby older model year may be the more budget-friendly route, especially if you are willing to trade away some of the redesign’s freshness.
