Used 2023 Volvo XC90 for Sale nearColumbia, SC

How much does the 2023 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 14.92% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,242 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It stands out as an understated luxury three-row crossover with a stylish design, a beautiful interior, and a modern edge from its technology. The trade-offs are worth weighing, though: cargo space is limited, the third-row seats are difficult to access, and the technology can feel too touchscreen-dependent.

With 38.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive price if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s safety reputation and refined execution support its reliability case, and its mild-hybrid powertrains are described as a step toward smoother operation and better efficiency. The fuel-saving auto stop-start system is almost imperceptible, which is a nice day-to-day benefit.

If you plan to keep one long term, the main ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about living with its touchscreen-heavy controls and packaging compromises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you plan to use the third row often. Pay close attention to cabin condition, infotainment behavior, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches how you expect to use it day to day.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core, Plus, and Ultimate trims step up from a stylish, minimalist cabin to richer materials and more upscale presentation, with the Ultimate test vehicle showing off 21-inch wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, metal speaker covers, and an Orrefors crystal shift knob. The base trim is the one most likely to feel light on luxury extras, so compare equipment carefully if you want the most polished interior.
• Powertrain: The XC90 uses B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains for 2023, replacing the older T5 and T6 engines. The B5 makes 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the B6 makes 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet; both aim for smoother operation and slightly better efficiency.
• Safety package: Volvo’s Pilot Assist is standard, and it combines adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist that can nudge you back into lane and vibrate if you drift. It also helps maintain distance from a stop up to highway speed, and the standard safety tech is a major part of the XC90’s appeal.
• Infotainment: The XC90 uses a 9-inch vertically oriented touchscreen with Google OS, Google Maps on the 12.3-inch driver display, and standard Google Assistant. It also integrates Android Auto functionality directly into the system, but many key functions still live in the touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup is described as delivering only a few mpg of improvement at most, so don’t expect a dramatic efficiency jump from the powertrain update.

Which 2023 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core luxury look, Google-based infotainment, and standard safety tech without pushing the price too high. It makes the most sense if you want the XC90’s style and tech first, and you’re willing to skip some of the richer cabin touches.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment without jumping all the way to the top of the range. If you want a more upscale feel while keeping the XC90’s understated character, this is the trim to focus on.
• Ultimate: This is the most luxurious version, with the richest materials and the most premium presentation. It suits you best if you want the XC90 to feel fully dressed up and you’re comfortable paying for the top end of the lineup.

Standard safety tech is a strong part of the XC90’s appeal across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,242 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,524, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $38,524 sits slightly below last year's $45,280.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle is equipped.

Because the XC90 still has strong demand signals and a premium reputation, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and was named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2022.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo’s Pilot Assist is standard, and it combines adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. The lane-keeping system can gently nudge you back into lane and vibrate if you keep drifting, while adaptive cruise control works well even in traffic.

The main caveat is that the XC90’s safety tech is effective but not especially innovative compared with some rivals, even though it remains a strong part of the package.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings updated B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains and Google-based infotainment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,309, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,524 average.
• It offers eco-minded appeal with available plug-in hybrid and leather-free features.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $44,982, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $38,524 average.
• It keeps the XC90’s timeless styling and adds a plug-in hybrid option.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price movement, inventory, and updated powertrains, the 2023 is the primary pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want a newer model-year alternative and can pay more, the 2024 remains appealing.
